I bought this for my son's first birthday because of course we were like "ooooh we had one of those when we were kids! Let us attempt to replicate our own childhoods upon our son". Well...um. Okay for one thing, this is rated 18 months and up, and my son is one year old and already he's close to being too big for this thing. Which would be less of a big deal if the thing weren't so cheaply made. The one we had as children (in the late 80s/early 90s) was made out of hard sturdy plastic and it took a beating under the butts of three kids. This thing? It's a pale shade of the sit and spin of yore. If he gains two more pounds and tries to sit on it, the plastic is going to start warping, I'm sure of it. I guess that's just how it is now though. Nothing is made with quality like it used to be. Everything is made as cheaply as possible in sweatshops overseas. Sigh.

My 3.5-year old has been asking for this since she was 2, and we finally caved and bought it for her. I was worried she may have outgrown it as she is 40lb and tall for her age, but she fits just fine and I don’t see how she will become too big for it for quite some time.

I was also worried about quality as other reviewers stated it isn’t as sturdy as those of the late 70s/early 80s and doesn’t spin as well, but I found it to be well made and have no concerns thus far. It is assembled using only one screw (which did concern me), but it has been subjected to a lot of use and abuse in the last week from the 3.5-year old as well as the 1.5-year old, and we are hopeful it will make it for the long haul. I will certainly update if it doesn’t!

Update: STILL no help from customer service. Everyone has given me the run around.

If I could give this zero I would. It is EXTREMELY TINY. I decided to go against my gut with the reviews and get it for my son. It's ridiculous how tiny it is. If your child is a newborn maybe they'll fit. But that's about all. I probably wont even hear back. But heed my warning and go with a more expensive one. Get your money's worth I guess.

This was a hit for Child That Does Not Play With Toys. At 2.5, she figured it out within seconds, and it spins FAST. I'm not sure about reviewers that said that they remember the top moving as a child because that's not the case. You can YouTube videos of children riding retro versions and the top has never spun. And about the she size being smaller than they remembered... I think that's a perspective issue. As you can see in videos, it's the same as it was years ago. We're just a lot bigger. ;) It fits my 2.5 year old very well (pictured), and even her 8 year old brother has taken a turn (though I can see why it's not for children that size... he pulls pretty hard on the plastic and I'm afraid he will break it). Overall this is a great, classic toy!

Agree with all the comments about it being smaller (less floor space is a bonus in our home) and light weight (again I like this for storing away and cleaning up) it quickly became a favorite for my 2 1/2 year old and we are very pleased. It goes together quickly too! Three screws and done! Packaging was awful. All thrown loose in a non labeled box. Recommend wrapping if for a present arrives like it's used but all parts seem new and work great.

This is not a very exciting toy for any toddler and can be a little dangerous if you have walls or furniture around it. My 18 month old and 2 year old grandkids do not play with it, and when they first tried it, couldn't figure out how to work it and when they did, almost caught the corner of the couch with their head.

Ummm how do kid use this.. unless it’s the fact that my 19 month old (16 months at time of purchase) is a giant... I don’t understand how they can play with it. She keeps falling off the seat and has a hard time trying to sit. The middle part is also too short, should be an inch taller & the seat and inch or two wider, then she’ll have no problems at all.
She still plays with it so we kept it but honestly I would say don’t bother.

Amazing little toy. Reminds me of the metal ones that used to be in the parks. My 2yo and 4.5yo both love it, to the point where it hasn't stopped spinning since it came in the house. The older kid is slightly over the weight limit, but it hasn't had any problems- she still spins so fast her braids go out straight! Both are 98 percentile for height, so I'm not sure why there are reviews saying kids don't fit, or the handle is too low.
