The games are simple enough that 4-5 year olds seems to get it with a little coaching at first. There is only a 4-directional pad and a single "Action" button so the games and controller are just right for kids.
The Remote is wireless and infrared so the BeamBox needs to be in the line of sight where it will be played from. In watching my 5 year old play he swings his arms around and moves quite a bit so make sure there is enough space for them to move around in and still have line-of-sight to the device.
On another note, the main Beam Bot does come with 1 character but at the low cost of a few bucks for each other character we got the whole set and he really enjoys just switching them in and out of the device.
It does not connect well, IT WILL NOT TURN ON majority of times, until you try more than 10 times to trying to turn it on!!
It'll shut off on its own, showing no connection.
I've tried changing out the batteries to new ones many many times thinking maybe it eats up the battery super fast!
But its the system that's bad, everyone's complaining about it.
I would NEVER recommend this to anyone!!
Really make me mad when your almost 4yr old is wanting to play with this and I can't get this thing to turn on!
I've also purchased all game figures to play different modes.... waist of money for sure!
Value gaming system. Gets pricey with the different characters - look for them as Add-ons here on Amazon to save $$
Easy to set up and use. Plugs into the A/V.
Runs on batteries - we use Rayovac Rechargeables for the system and the controller.
No controller cords [note ability to chuck said remote at others or the TV rather easily however]
Not really good for older kids. Our 5 year old son gets bored with the games pretty fast.
Batteries don't last very long. With normal use [under 30 minutes per day] it lasts about 1 week.
When we first got the system, the primary recipient was in our bedroom every day for a month at 4am in the hopes of getting extra playing time. The novelty has worn off, we're getting more sleep, and he's still having fun. We'd definitely purchase this system again.
