Product Description

Product Description

It's 2 toys in 1. As a sturdy, stable walker, the Step Start Walk 'n Ride toy helps babies learn to stand, take their first steps, and walk. Then it easily converts to a first ride-on toy. It has a locking mechanism that only parents can activate, so children can't change modes by themselves. Kids can explore the hands-on activities in both the walker and ride-on modes to see fascinating sights, hear silly sounds and touch interesting textures. Playskool and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro.

When little wobblers are bored with walls and sofa edges, and there's no one to offer a hand, they can two-foot it safely across that open ocean of living-room floor with the help of the Step Start walker. This dual-purpose toy acts as stable support as they learn to walk, then lets them roll along when they want to ride. Once they are secure on their legs, the walker converts easily to a first ride-on toy. (Only adults can operate the wheel-lock mechanism.) A flexible antenna, spinning drum, clicking gear, and other sight-touch-sound features provide sit-down play fun. Assembly requires a Phillips screwdriver. --Ava Natov

Let me start by saying that my 10 month old LOVES this toy. She likes both modes (walk behind and ride on) and she really likes the toys on the body. I would agree with the other reviewer who said that this is a carpet area only walker. The design of this toy is bizarre at best. In order to get the toy from ride on to walker, you have to "snap" the handle into place. This is not easy. It's not impossible, but it does take some practice and the first few times she used it I didn't get the handle secured properly. Also, this toy will tip over. My baby likes to walk to the side of both of her walkers but the other walker has a more stable base. Although I wouldn't recommend this toy as a first walker or a walker for a non-carpeted area (for that I recommend Elmo's Grow and Go Walker Mower by Fisher Price), I do like the fact that this toy has two functions.

We bought this for our daughter for Christmas when she was 9 months old. When she first got it, she preferred to play mechanic(flipping it over and playing with the wheels and underside)and she also liked to play with the toys on the top. So far, we have not had any trouble with the attachments. Now that she is learning how to walk, she loves to use the toy in the walker mode and strolls around our living room. We have found that when she does hit an obstacle, the toy has held up well and is very sturdy. In the car mode, she loves to have us push her around. She can push herself backwards, but she has not gotten the going forward part down yet. When she wants to get off of the car, we have found that it is low enough to the ground that she has not hurt herself. Overall, we have felt that this was a great purchase and plan to pass it down to the next one!

I bought this because of the brand name and the commercials for it I saw on t.v..I was very excited to buy it to help my son while he was taking his first few steps: But it is the most non-walking friendly toy for a beginner walker to even use! The wheels are to slippery, when he trys to push it it just slides or falls over because it is too top heavy, and the walk space for my babies feet is too awkward..as a ride-one it is just too low to the floor for my son.
He has used it only to push the levers and play hide and seek w/other toys in the trunk compartment of it...I am really upset about the money I spent on this product..

My husband and I purchased this toy for your son's 1st birthday. The back wheels were so narrow that everytime he tried to walk with it in the upright position, his feet kept hitting the wheels, making it impossible for him to walk with it. When it was in the sitting position, he reached forward for the "trunk" compartment and tipped right over! I returned it immediately!

I PURCHASED THE STEP START WALK N RIDE TOY FOR MY SON'S FIRST BIRTHDAY. ALTHOUGH HE IS STILL NOT WALKING TOTALLY INDEPENDENTLY YET, HE SEEMS TO HAVE LOADS OF FUN "WALKING" BEHIND THE WALK N RIDE. HE ALSO SEEMS TO ENJOY THE MANY ACTIVITIES THAT THE TOY OFFERS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT FOR ANY CHILD FROM PRE-WALKER (ABOUT 9 MONTHS) ON UP. WE HAVE TONS OF FUN WITH IT. ONE ADDED BENEFIT IS THAT MY 6 YEAR OLD IS ALSO ABLE TO ASSIST THE BABY WITH HIS EFFORTS.
I REALLY LIKE IT BECAUSE IT WAS VERY EASY TO ASSEMBLE.

I purchased the Step Start Walk 'n Ride because (1) it is convertible, (2) its activities are accessible while walking and riding, and (3) appeared to have extra leg room in walk mode. I was going to get it for my 10-month-old daugher's birthday, but it was apparent she'd already be walking by then, so I bought it early. She waited impatiently while trying to "help" me put it together, and before it was completed, she was clicking the gear shift. (I was rather anxious to see her give it a whirl myself.)
The assembly was fairly easy, although it took a little elbow grease to snap some of the plastic pieces into place. But it was soon time to take it for a spin. Once assembled, it's in "ride" mode, so we sat her on it just to see how she looked. It was very low, and looked uncomfortable with her knees up so high. I said to my husband, "By the time she learns to ride it, she'll be too tall for it." Moving along, we converted it to "walk" mode. Our next disappointment was the handle wasn't as wide as other walking toys she'd played with. Additionally, the little curve in the back that appeared to be "leg room" was too narrow. Each step she took hit a rear wheel, leaving her crying on the floor.
I immediately decided to exchange the Walk 'n Ride for the more expensive Fisher-Price Stride-to-Ride, which I've seen her enjoy. However, although easily assembled, the toy was impossible to disassemble. The parts that snapped in place were not meant to be un-snapped. Thankfully, when I called the store they said I could return it as is, along with the box and receipt. It's going back tomorrow!

I got this for my daughter last Christmas when she was 10 months old and just beginning to walk. The base is too narrow for her to walk easily. Like other reviewers, we have found moving from the riding mode into the walker mode difficult and less than stable from a safety standpoint. In the riding mode, it is heavier and lower to the ground than a Fisher-Price rider she received as a gift from her aunt. Therefore it is more difficult for her to push and she now likes the Fisher-Price rider better. About the only thing my daughter likes to do with this toy is put things in the trunk and that alone is not worth the purchase price. I do not recommend this rider.
