The Playstation 2 Memory Card 8MB 2PK Red/Blue is a quick way to pick up a necessary accessory for your PS2. Both cards do exactly what is advertised: they allow you to save game data and other files from your PS2. The list price is a throw-back to when these first appeared, which was LONG ago. While this memory is still rather expensive, it is an unfortunate cost of still using the PS2.

If you have a PS3 that is backward compatible, you can also plug these cards into the PlayStation 3 Memory Card Adaptor to play your games on the PS3.

As far as the PlayStation 2 is concerned, you absolutely NEED memory cards to get much playability out of the system. You can't even progress through the different game play options on most PS2 games without it. The PlayStation 3 comes with built-in storage, but also a much higher price-tag. So if you are planning on picking up a PS2 bundle, make sure you pick up some memory. Unfortunately, they do not include memory in any of the bundle's being sold today that I am aware of.

The PS2 is a good legacy system to have around for an extra to be devoted to party games like Rock Band or Guitar Hero III . Bundles like the PlayStation 2 SingStar Bundle allow you to have a mini-karaoke station for your holiday gatherings. Granted, for hardcore gamers, the PS3 is going to meet all their needs. But if you are going to have a pack of kids at home for the holidays, it never hurts to have an extra system that can keep them occupied and that you won't be concerned about them damaging.

There are many reasons to get the two pack over single PlayStation 2 8MB Memory Cards . The price of this dual pack is usually more attractive than buying them one by one. I say usually because the prices fluctuate and you have to watch them carefully. Having the two colors makes it easy to tell the cards apart. It's also good to have more than a few extra cards so that you can have a backup as well as an extra for the rare case you fill one up. So you will definitely need at least two memory cards anyway, and having a few more won't hurt either.

There are also many reasons to stay away from the higher capacity cards. Those with older PS2 units may have compatibility issues saving to some of the larger third party cards. Even if your system does work with them, once you use one of those 64MB cards you won't be able to take it with you to play on an older system. Outside of the PS2 world, 64MB would not be considered *large* by memory card standards. I know, paying this much for 8 MB cards is kind of annoying in the year 2008. But PS2 game files tend to be small, so you can still save plenty of files onto these cards. You will definitely get a lot of use out of this two-pack.

Memory is a must-own accessory for your PS2. Try to get the two-pack and have a few extras on hand. And definitely watch the price.

Stick With Stock

I learned that adding high performance parts to Japanese cars can sometimes ruin them. It seems that the same applies to electronics; and gaming on the PS2 since the day it was on the market explains why I need a lot of space. I gave up the standard some time ago and had been using a Max Memory 64 and a Nyko 32 until I started having issues with both.
The Max Memory works as well as an open warehouse, but I noticed the load time on certain games took forever(You have to wait for the forklift). So now I use it for storage and copy saves only. I'm going to keep this one for backup.
The Nyko is(or was) the coolest because it divides 32MB to mimic 4 8MB mem cards in the same slot. Awesome for creating multiple profiles in the same game, Madden games especially, until the day it erased one of the profiles while loading. It also had corruption file problems, so I went back to stock.

What you get in this deal is a factory set of two OEM SONY SCPH-10020 8MB Magic Gate mem cards. The only difference is that they are molded in blue and red. Not the standard black, although the chip board is the same. Inside you get some cool aqua/pink stickers and the usual warnings and guarantee from SCEA. For gamers that have issues with file corruption, check your FAQ's and grab a set. You will not be disappointed.

When I bought this set it was only $24.99, which essentially meant I was able to buy two of the Sony mem cards for the price of one of the black ones. I've been needing another memory card for a while, but I really didn't need two extra ones (since I already have one original black one). Since this is a set of two, I was able to split with my friend who also needed one, so extra saving!

Although these are not as nice/pretty/classic as the original black ones, they acutally looked less cheap than I first expected. The red is clean and does not give a "ugh so cheap" kind of feel, and the blue feels surprisingly refreshing (though my friend ended up getting the blue. oh well). So if one of the reasons you were hesitant about buying this set was because you didn't want an ugly cheap looking red/blue thing sticking out of your slick PS2, then rest easy. Granted it will never look as sleek as the black, it's definitely nicer quality than I first thought.

Can't really say on durability yet since I've only had it for a little while, but since it is a Sony product, and my original black 8MB Sony mem card has lasted me a good...well a long time, since I first got my PS2 which was when PS2 first came out. :P

I could state the obvious, that these are so wildly expensive by today's memory standards that it borders on the obscene. I could also state my suspicions that the prices suddenly jumped quite a bit after the PS2 price dropped to $100, but I'm sure somebody else has covered both those already in depth.

I'll say that they seem to be solid and well constructed. They fit just fine into my PlayStation 2 Console , with my Logitech PlayStation 2 Cordless Action Controller . I like the black plastic memory cards better, but I can see how the color helps differentiate without putting a label on them. I've been using one of them now for a few months with no issues. I'm not expecting any problems, they're Sony made afterall.

As your main card or as a backup for important saves, you really should get a branded memory card. I've not had any card ever fail on me, but then again I've never had a memory card until about a year ago. The general concensus seems to be, branded is better than 3rd party.

Very good for using on the PS2. You can get a lot of memory saved on these. If putting one of these into your PS2, make sure you also have a 1mb memory card (so you have say... the blue one of these memory cards in the first slot above player one remote hole, alongside a Gamester 1MB memory card in the second slot above the player two remote hole). I myself had problems knowing which memory cards to put in which slot, so I thought to mention this.
