The Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 (HRAP 3) is an arcade stick controller built for the PlayStation 3 and is also PC compatible. The buttons are stick Hori buttons, however the stick is a Sanwa JLF with a default Square gate. I bought this as a back-up with the plans of one day changing the buttons also getting a custom art. I have a Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA (HRAP V3 SA) to compare this to.
Use:
The HRAP3 functions as I expected it and am use to in an arcade stick, with a responsive stick for input of movement in games such as Street Fighter or Marvel VS Capcom, however the only difference I notice between this and say a Madzats TE or a more expensive Hori controller is the buttons. The stock buttons are NOT as sensitive as I am use to so inputting the button combinations are different than I am use to. However in someone who has never played with an arcade stick, my friends find that it's great. However I am use to the standard Square gate, where my friends liked it better when I had an Octagon gate installed in it; but this is just a preference and does as it is proposed. The turbo buttons may be confusing but once you understand how to use it it becomes fun for arcade shooters like Raiden.
Advice for future buyers:
- If you plan on modding it do yourself a favor and research how to open it since it is a bit confusing at first to take apart
- If you change the buttons be warned when removing it since the wires are taped to the bottom of the insides so when removing the top panel the buttons may tear if you quickly life the metal panel.
- Practice. Getting this doesn't mean you'll instantly get better. I had to play with it for an hour before I could do basics.
Overall
I felt it was a good purchase since I was looking for a decent back-up stick and for friends to use if they wanted to play. It also functions well with PC games so I can relive nostalgia of playing on arcade machines. So I give it a 5/5.
Good stick out of the box but can easily be customized.
Edit: (Nov.26.2011)
I've had this stick for about 8 months now and I can say that it's working just as solid today as it did the day I got it. I'll soon be replacing the buttons with Sanwa buttons but the stock buttons are still working fine and I'm only replacing them as a preference not because they need it. Also in my earlier review I stated that I thought it could stand a few drops and I can confirm this to be true, very sturdy product.
Edit 2: (Jun.07.12)
Over a year in and the stick is STILL in great functioning condition, the usb cable has started to wear and the insulation was coming through a bit, but I was able to pull the cable into the case a bit to keep it from damaging any further. This could be due to over use but I'm sure a lot of sticks and controllers are prone to this, it's the same thing that use to happen with NES controllers.
I've replaced the buttons on the stick with Sanwa OBSF-30's. The stock buttons would rotate when they were installed, the Sanwa buttons fit very snug. The amount of pressure you need to press down on them isn't as much as you need for the stock ones. They feel a bit better when plinking and doing moves such as Honda's hundred hand slap. It's worth noting that if you're fine with the stock buttons there's no need to replace them. I've only replaced the first 6 buttons and still have the stock L1, L2, start and select. I plan on replacing those later on but that would be more for aesthetics. I'll be installing a plexiglass top with custom artwork aswell as a Paewang PCB for multi console use, with a usb feed through int he future. I'll most likely update at that time. When I was looking to purchase a stick I was hoping to find a long term review that showed how the build quality of the stick is compared to others.

Avis positif mais un peu déçu par rapport à l'excellence que les avis sur Internet me promettait !
