One of the things I like best about Brooklyn Ann is the way her characters seem so normal, despite anything that may mark them as unique. Love these people!
I am a big fan of Brooklyn Ann’s series: Scandals with Bite, Brides of Prophecy, and Hearts of Metal and pre-order every book. So, I was delighted when Pleading Rapture, the latest book in the Brides of Prophecy series was delivered to my Kindle. Up until this new release, Hearts of Metal had become my favorite of her series although I was hooked on Ms. Ann’s work after reading Bite Me, Your Grace. Brides of Prophecy, however, has become my number one favorite in her series with the release of the latest book, Pleading Rapture, where a voice is given to the drummer, Aurora. Not only have I learned a great deal about the women who play in metal bands but I was delighted at the research that was untaken to bring Aurora’s character to life. As an older Black woman, it’s not often that I find books that feature women of color in bands (metal of otherwise) or engaging in hot affairs of the heart that leave me breathless. Because of The Brides of Prophecy series I now have a greater understanding of the challenges that all women face in the industry and a great deal of respect and admiration for those women who take the stage as musicians and singers.
I would be lax if I didn’t comment on what I enjoyed about the newest release, Pleading Rapture. First of all, I’ve always enjoyed the bond and resulting comradery of this dynamic group--Rage of Angels-- so when the drummer got some, I was thrilled! Portraying Aurora’s character as bold, smart, beautiful, loyal and fearless while highlighting her culture and girly side was awesome! Of course, the love story with Aurora and the hot sexy vamp attorney, Anthony (aka Tony) was equally dynamic and I had to check myself a couple of time that my own exclamations were not overheard when they gave in to explore the possibilities of their growing attraction. IT WAS HOT! So much was covered in this book that I found stimulating: Silas is still the man and I fell in love again with his character as he is portrayed as a strong leader who is compassionate and caring for those he embraces as family and friends, the portrayal of Aurora’s family dynamics and history; and the attitude of Aurora’s family when they discovered that there was a possibility of a long term relationship with Tony and the back story of acceptance—I thought that was spot on. Although Vamps are a different (fictional) species, they are portrayed in every series as having human character flaws which adds a deeper layer to every story and Pleading Rapture was no exception. All in all, I can’t wait to read about the next bride!
