"The plot to cool the planet" begins with the murder of a prominent environmental scientist. The victim had been a vocal advocate for world leaders to take immediate action to address the effects of climate change. While her controversial ideas had sparked debate worldwide, the usual lack of consensus on the immediacy of the crisis had stymied any action. With the RCMP's investigation of the murder as a subplot, the novel explores an intricate plan to save the planet.
Sam Bleicher's novel offers a thought provoking read exposing not only the dangers of climate change but also the crisis of government inaction.
It is a great murder mystery too!

This novel calls out to be made into a movie or TV miniseries. It is set in the present and near future in a wide variety of exotic locations. The cast of characters includes detectives from Canada trying to solve a murder of a prominent climate researcher (with a secret life), and diplomats from small pacific island countries developing a plan to save their countries and the earth from the negative effects of global warming. International politics present different challenges. Once I started reading, it was hard to put down – appropriately over two code yellow and red hot summer days in Baltimore. The book is long (517 pages) and the author is not yet in the league of Tom Clancy, but the story is compelling. The book reflects present political realities, including references to Trump and Putin, and provides extensive information about climate change.

Here’s a creative work which defies the usual categorization. Its murder mystery is folded into the “plot” on the planet, which, in turn, is folded into political rivalries and cultural barriers. Its free flowing ideas allow the reader to explore the science and wonder with the author how the hell humanity is going to work its way out of the catastrophe which confronts it. If you care about the planet, I invite you to read this debut work.

If you have any interest in climate politics, Sam Bleicher’s novel "The Plot to Cool the Planet" is the book for you. It has EVERYTHING. Bleicher skillfully weaves a murder mystery thriller replete with a quirky pair of detectives on the hunt for the killer of a glamorous climate-Cassandra, a steamy romance between the heroic protagonists—even a diabolical Putin gets into the action—all the while slyly slipping in a wealth of authoritative information. This is an entertaining and uplifting book about a topic fraught with misinformation and chemtrail-like conspiracy theories.
Highly recommended!

A quite fascinating thriller about the scientific aspects of climate change and the drastic lengths to which some individuals and corporations and governments will go to either conceal and deny it, or to alter it, THE PLOT TO COOL THE EARTH features well-realized characters and extensive background into science, politics, governmental bodies, and the extreme dangers potential with intensified climate change. High suspense, tension, and thrills propel this thriller and will keep readers glued to the pages.

Tops in the new Cli-Fi genre

"The Plot to Cool the Planet" by Sam Bleciher is a tour de force. It combines a murder mystery of a climate scientist with riveting concerns about the mounting climate crisis. The details of international organizations and international diplomacy or lack there-of are highly plausible. The science of geoengineering and the technical needs to carry it out led me to research calcite as the plausible substance considered here. As one would expect with the attention to detail shown through-out the book is that it is a plausible substance but it appears the stratosphere rather than the troposphere may the more appropriate atmospheric level. It is a fiction book after all. The most impressive accomplishment is that it left me feeling hopeful. We share a common humanity and a common need to preserve what is best of life. I urge everyone to read this book and then pull together to get us out of this fix.

This is a winding narrative that includes international diplomats, criminal investigation, climate science and a view on how will need to work together as a world to address global warming. The question we are left with is are we capable. It is a thoroughly enjoyable read and I leaned a lot.
