Not recommended for switching mass storage devices such as hard drives, flash drives, card readers, etc, as these devices should be unmounted or safely ejected via the host operating system prior to switching.

Decent USB3 Switch. Easily modified to have a remote.

Pretty decent USB3 switch. No issues with the USB3 switching functionality itself. The selected system sees the plugged in devices just fine, and the non-selected system just acts as though the devices have been unplugged. I just wish this switch had a remote that came with it. It's really inconvenient to have this switch on your desk with all the cabling since the two system ports are on the back while the device port is on the front... especially when the 2 cables which go to the systems are only 3 feet long. Fortunately, this switch is easily modified to have a remote. Since I've added the remote, the USB3 switch can sit under my desk with the other wires, and the switch sits on my desk in easy reach without the mess of all the USB cables.

The buttons on this switch pull the signal low (tie it to ground) when they're pressed. To add a remote, I just got a length of bundled 3 wire 24 gauge wires, a Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) switch.. like these: E Support Heavy Duty 20A 125V 15A 250V SPST 3 Terminal Pin (ON)-OFF-(ON) Momentary Rocker Toggle Switch Metal Bat Pack of 5 .. then soldered 1 wire to ground, and 1 wire to each switch on the USB switch. At the other end, the ground wire was tied to the middle pole on the switch, and each of the other wires was tied to one of the throws on the switch. The best part is that the buttons on the pluggable USB switch still work. The remote just allows you to act as though you hit the button on the switch itself. Pluggable -- please add a remote to your product! I've included some pictures so you can see how I modified it to have a remote.

Keep in mind, you'll void your warranty doing this, and could possibly cause damage to the plugged in systems or devices if you don't know what you're doing. I take no responsibility for you modifying a USB switch to try to replicate what I have done.

I've been using this Pluggable USB 3.0 switchfor over a year. I have a work and personal laptop and switch all the peripherals that make up my desktop workstation (keyboard, mouse, USB sound card, USB camera & microphone - - I have other switches for the dual monitors) - work laptop during day, personal laptop otherwise.

It works great with one exception. The computer on the A side must be connected and on to supply power or you cannot switch to the computer on the B side.

I bought this so I could easily share my work computer's monitor, mouse, keyboard, ethernet and speakers with my personal laptop that I bring from home. There is certain software that I run on my laptop but not on my desktop computer and occasionally I need to bring it, but it's a pain to have to plug in a bunch of different peripherals each time. This has turned out to be a great solution! NOTE: If this is what you want to do, you need to also have the plugable usb 3 docking station which I also bought. Between the two devices, I have everything I need to quickly and easily switch between computers and have ALL the peripherals remain connected. My laptop is an HP Spectre X360 (the best 2-in-1 laptop on the market right now - go buy it) and my desktop is just a very basic ASUS tower. When pushing the button it takes just a few seconds for everything to move from one computer to the other (see my video). It works perfectly! I have had absolutely no trouble since I got it all set up, which is very easy and only took a few minutes. I didn't need to manually install any drivers or software (my computer set it up by itself) and I'm really happy with the result! The reason I took of one star is because it was my hope originally that the docking station alone would allow me the capability to switch easily between devices, but that's not exactly what it's intended for. It's a little annoying that I have to have two different gadgets and all of their associated cables to make this happen. I would love to see plugable integrate the switch capability into the docking station itself, but all in all I can't really complain because it works. Hopefully this is helpful to someone else who's looking to do the same thing! I paid full price for both of these devices and can definitely recommend.

Excellent USB 3.0 Sharing Switch

I built up a rolling computer cart/desk for my grandson when he's over at our house for general computing and gaming... he's a Minecraft and Roblox fan!. The cart houses two computers, a recent PC with a fast Intel i5 CPU and a Mac Mini. I used a keyboard/mouse combo with a unifying receiver USB dongle. I needed an easy and simple method of switching the keyboard/mouse between the two computers, and this product does the job magnificently. Using the two supplied USB 3.0 cables from the Plugable USB 3.0 sharing switch to the respective USB 3.0 or 2.0 ports on the computers, and the unifying receiver USB dongle at the input of the sharing switch allows for easy switching between the PC and the Mac Mini by the use of the two illuminated (blue light) push-button switches.

Overall, this is an excellent product with many uses only limited by one's imagination and application!

Great when it works, mine is finicky

Blue light keeps you from losing it but sucks if you sleep in the same room as it, black electrical tape to the rescue.

When I go to switch between my MacBook and PC there are problems with the light not switching to the other side even those the mouse and keyboard are active (I have a USB 3.0 HUB connected) on the other computer.

Also sometimes I need to cycle through twice to get the the other computer to recignize the devices, but this is a minor inconvenience. Especially compared to the 4 port IO gear switch that I had, where there were 4 slots to cycle through to try re-connecting. This is light years ahead of plugging the devices, or even the hub for that matter between the two computers. My monitor has an audio out, and accepts/switches audio from the DP connected to my computer and HDMI from my macbook. It also has EDID on all ports simultaneously for smooth switching between inputs. So this was that last thing I needed, too bad it does not work very well, but maybe I received a dud unit.

Have been using this switch box for a while. Does exactly what it says - switches one USB connection between two computers. I got it to switch my gaming keyboard which a Belkin KVM would not do. This keyboard includes a 2-port USB hub and the mouse and external 3GB drive attached to that also switch over. I have had no problems with any of these devices in the 2 months so far. The switch box is made of plastic but seems of decent quality. The two supplied USB cables also seem good quality - they have standard A plugs one end (for the target PCs) and B (square printer-style) plugs on the other which are for the switch box. You only have to plug in a standard USB A plug from your one peripheral to be in business. The two switches on the box are the only thing I would criticise - they need a fairly deliberate slowish push but always work properly. They are marked 1 and 2 with quite bright blue LEDs showing which is in use. Only slight drawback is that if both PCs are off the box ALWAYS defaults to PC1 when one is switched on so if it is PC2 you need to press the 2 button quickly but given the usefulness of the box it is a minor niggle indeed. Recommended.

I have my computer set up with 3 monitors via a dock and work from home. Due to additional security controls, I was no longer able to use my own computer but had to use a company laptop via a VPN, which meant that I either had to attach the laptop to the dock, which made my own computer inaccessible, or invest in something that could switch between the two. This little gadget was the answer. The dock goes into the input, and both my computer and the company laptop are connected to the out ports. Switching between the two is as simple as pressing the appropriate button. The only downside is that the cabling tends to pull the unit away from where I want it as it is so light, so it is stuck to the desk with blu-tack, which has solved that problem. Highly recommended, as are all Plugable products I've used.

I use an HD capture device to record from various HD resources onto a USB stick. I've already had the USB port on one such capture device break due to constantly swapping the stick from capture device to PC to transfer the data for editing, and was looking for a way to stop this happening again. I've already tried a 4x2 USB switch, but the capture device clearly saw this as a hub and refused to record onto the USB stick, so I tried the item above and it works like a charm. I have one of the included USB leads going to the capture device, the other to my PC, and my USB stick plugged into the switch.
With the switch selected to the capture device, it records with no problems, then on completion, pressing the other switch button connects the USB stick to my PC allowing me to download the video data without having to unlug or replug anything.
Note: The switch says in the description that it is unsuitable for USB sticks or external hard drives, but I understand this is because of the danger of data corruption if the drive is 'hot switched'. To prevent this, simply use 'Safe removal' of the USB drive in Windows, then once Windows says the drive is safe to remove, press the switch button to swap over.

Super bright blue LED lights

A well made item that seems to do it's job but as other reviews say, has blue LED lights that are far too bright.
What I usually do with LED's that are too bright is to write over them with black CD marker pen. That sometimes dims them down. Why they need to be so bright I don't know. Maybe so they can be seen from space.
The switch itself seems to work, but may leak a small amount of power to the unselected device.
Value for money though as the included leads would cost near enough the cost of the whole item by themselves. They are very thick USB 3 type leads.
On a safety level, don't look directly into bright LED lights for a length of time. Dull them down or cover them with tape.

I'm using it to share Das Keyboard 4 Ultimate (with built-in USB hub) and Logitech G502 mouse between PC and Macbook Pro in closed clamshell mode. It works but there is an issue. The mouse pointer occasionally stops, waits a second and then teleports to random position on the screen even when the mouse is not moved at all. The computers sometimes miss the key release event while I'm typing fast and they behave as the key is still pressed, until I press and release the same key again. Reconnecting the USB cable sometimes helps for a limited time but most of the time it does not. I even replaced the USB cables with higher quality ones, same issue. There is no issue when the keyboard is connected directly to the PC and/or Mac.

UPDATE: Tried with a powered USB 2.0 hub, it works flawlessly so far. Changed to 5 stars.
