The Bravura Easy Computer Sync software is asking me for a Product Key. Where do I find my Product Key?

The Product Key is a 16-character alphanumeric code unique to each order. Since 12/01/2017, Product Keys are printed on a tag which are tied to the Transfer Cable itself. If you purchased your Transfer Cable before 12/01/2017, you should have received an email containing the Product Key. Please reach out to us directly with your Amazon order number for help with your Product Key.

I purchased the cable from a local PC shop, ebay, or "Amazon Warehouse Deals". How do I get my Product Key?

The Product Key is uniquely tied to the original Amazon Order ID number of the purchase, so whomever originally purchased the cable was sent the product key before they resold the cable. If the cable is purchased used, from a third party seller, or on a site other than Amazon, we are unable to provide a product key. The Transfer Cable must be purchased new directly from Plugable on Amazon to receive this Product Key.

Does each computer need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse attached?

Yes, each PC will need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse so that you can launch and operate the transfer program.

Is the Plugable USB 2.0 Transfer Cable compatible with macOS?

No. Our Transfer Cables are not compatible with any macOS version.

How long will it take to complete the transfer?

Transfer time varies with the speed of the old “source” system (and hard drive in particular). The amount of data to be transferred will also affect transfer times, so some systems will transfer in minutes while others will take hours.

Should I install the software before plugging in the cable, or the other way around?

We recommend installing the transfer software first because it will copy the necessary driver files to your PC so they are ready to load when the cable is attached.

My old computer won't function properly. Can I use this to transfer content to my new computer?

No. Computers must be in full working order to install and run the Bravura Easy Computer Sync software to perform transfers. We would suggest finding a local and trusted technician to help.

Will this transfer my programs and games?

No. Programs and games must be installed using the original discs/installation files.

Is there a specific USB port that I should connect the cable to on either system?

Connecting to any open USB port will do. In situations where the transfer software cannot establish a connection between the two PCs, or is losing the connection mid-transfer, attaching the cable to a different port is a good troubleshooting step. On older PCs especially, we’ve found that trying the cable in another port (preferably on the rear of the computer) can help resolve various issues.

I’ve installed the Bravura Easy Computer Sync software on both systems, and instead of starting the transfer process both systems say “Waiting for Connection” indefinitely. What’s going on, and how can I get the connection to work?

Give each computer a restart. It's always a good practice to restart your computer after installing software to allow the installation and changes to complete
Try running the software as an Administrator. You can do this by right clicking the application, and choose, "run as administrator"
Certain antivirus/firewall/security software can block the connection between the two PCs. When a connection cannot be established, temporarily disabling any such software on both systems is often the solution
If there are multiple versions of transfer software open at once, they can interfere with each other. For example, sometimes Windows will automatically launch the “Windows Easy Transfer” software when a transfer cable is plugged in, even though the Bravura Easy Computer Sync software will be used for the transfer. Please make sure that only one transfer program is open on each system
If the drivers for the transfer cable have not been successfully installed on either of the two PCs, a connection between them will not be established. Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 should install the drivers automatically. XP and Vista systems need a driver installed which is included with the Bravura Easy Computer Sync software. If there are any errors with driver installation when plugging in the cable, please write them down exactly as these error messages can be helpful while troubleshooting the issue via email

I need to occasionally transfer files from one computer to the other. Specifically, Computer A is for internet access, and Computer B is for all my other computing work.

I tried this data transfer cable and four others similar to it. I found they were either cumbersome to work with, impossible to figure out (at least for my purposes) or didn’t work at all.

So I purchased an IOGear GUS 402 — 2x4 USB 2.0 Peripheral Sharing Switch and a USB 2.0 flash drive. And, in the immortal words of Elmer Fudd, Pwesto gazatz! I had the perfect solution. It’s like having a synchronized folder in both computers, because whatever changes are made in one computer will show up when the drive is accessed from the other.

I have my browser set to download directly to the flash drive. Then with the push of a button, the contents of the drive show up on my other computer, ready to use.

Perhaps this will help some of you who are in the same situation I was before I found this solution.

BEST way to transfer files from old computer to new one

in anticipation of a new computer, I bought this cable. over a year later, I got the new computer. however, the key code i'd originally gotten was somewhere i'd forgotten. fortunately, customer service at plugable was able to retrieve it for me (once I showed them my amazon order number and date). when I migrated document, photo, and outlook data, it was a piece of cake. cable came with a disk, but I downloaded the software on each computer from the website to ensure the latest software was installed. then I hooked up the two computers and told the dialog box which computer was the old one and let her rip. it took about 1.5 hours to move 4000 pix and I don't know how many documents. they all appear to have copied over. one thing to note, with my new computer having both an ssd and an hdd, I had to 1st go to settings on the new computer and tell it new data, programs and apps were to be loaded on the hdd (in this case e:) drive as it was the largest. the sdd drive was for windows os and onedrive. if I hadn't done that before I did the migration, everything would probably have tried to go to the c: drive and it wouldn't have succeeded.

I needed to get all my files off onto my new one.This moved everything over for me seamlessy, except I'm still struggling somewhat with my Itunes library. My music on the old laptop is an older version, this one required I download the newer Version and the two aren't quite synching yet, although the music is there. Something to work on. But much better than having to try to email all your stuff and all the time it takes. I actually went to bed and left it running as I had a lot of stuff to move, but it completed it

I wasted hours and hours trying to get this con job product to work. The single sheet of paper that was included said that I should not do what its customers want to do, which is use the mandatory cable to transfer files from one computer to another. The same sheet said that a CD was included. It wasn't. A nightmare then began, as phony messages kept popping up on my machine and connecting me to the the two companies running this con job, and refusing to finish the registration processes they started. Their Customer 'Service" department is a fraud; no one answers and no one calls you back.
So if you want to fail to transfer you files, and you want to be defrauded, and you want to waste your whole day getting told to do things that do not ever work, buy this junk.
By the way, the slimy software vendor that is mobbed up with this product lies on its website when it says that the original Microsoft File Transfer program can only be used once, so you'd better buy their ripoff. That is a lie, that is a lie, that is a lie.

This product is excellent.

I am using it to transfer files from an XP machine to a 10 machine it has worked flawlessly through the transfer of some 200gb of media files.

Software installation was flawless, but remember the keycode that is required is sent to you by the seller in an email, so don't delete it.

Both computers recognized the USB cables immediately upon inserting them in the rear of each machine.
Both machines wanted to go online and find the required software but I cancelled that and installed it on both from the included CD disc.

There's almost no better feeling than that which you get when software installs properly the first time.

Quick, easy, foolproof

First off, I am not technically savvy, far from it, but my old tower is terminal. I needed to transfer files asap. Using a crossover cable to transfer to a new tower was not working. I was so not doing my alternatives: thumb (yes, thumb not flash) drive or transfer via CD. Hence, I purchased the Plugable Transfer Cable to transfer files to a replacement tower quickly, with the least amount of swearing. It was very easy to set up, just plug in the ends, install the software on both computers, and it is good to go. Transfer is fast and smooth. It does not, however, transfer all the files. It only allows transfer of certain files. And I use the term 'transfer', but it is actually a copy process. It still retains the files on my old tower, which turned out to be a blessing as some game files were accidentally deleted from the new tower and, thus, have to be re-done. (Again, not a techie. So, yeah, quick, easy, and foolproof!) I would definitely recommend this product to people like me!

Yes I could have used one of my external hard drives as an intermediate holding point when transferring over 100GBs of data, but what a pain that would be. I have only used this the one time, but it all went quite smoothly, from installing to transferring. The one little bugbear that arose were warnings regarding missing files that weren’t there to transfer, and of course I came back to the PCs hanging until the message was acknowledged. This occurred several times (about 5 times) so was a bit of a pain and thus made the transfer in effect a little longer overall. However on the other hand I would rather a warning message than no message at all. I haven’t looked into the messages received yet, and I’m still wondering whether these files were even there. I have checked the sending and receiving files and everything appears intact (I didn’t use copy but cut so I can’t say for certain) but I can only guess that they were possibly files that were originally there and were deleted but still showing up on the MBR for some reason. Like I said, I’m only guessing. If that is the case then this is one clever piece of software and therefore has in-built security for your peace of mind. if not then I’m in the dark as I wasn’t expecting these messages. If the seller/maker can enlighten me a little further regarding these messages then that would be really helpful??

Delivered in two days!!!! Works perfectly and the optional downloadable software is excellent and a must have. This is the only 3rd party software available for easy transfer cables and it provides full two way drag and drop file transfer. This can be done from either computer. I transferred files from a 32bit windows 7 starter machine to a 64bit Win 7 home premium machine. The same product key can be used for installs on all your XP, Vista and Win 7 machines. The product is very easy to use and the option to use the Microsoft or the downloadable Bravura software jumps on the screen as soon as you plug the cable in. The cable does not operate like a networked connection as it is intended for file transfer only but it will sync selected folders so they are the same on each computer.

Should Have Got One Before!

The cable arrived on time with a licence for additional transfer software and outline instructions to use Windows Easy Transfer. I just used Windows Easy Transfer (for access, click on Windows Start button and type easy transfer into the search window) on both Windows 7 machines and can only say it was the most straightforward process. The standard transfer copied all my photos, music, video and documents across without any need for me to be involved. I seem to recall it is possible to pick and choose what files are transferred but a quick visit to Easy Transfer will verify that?

Naturally, it did not transfer programs but it did transfer files created using programs (music and video projects etc.) so that they were picked up when I reinstalled the programs on my new pc, the exception being games where everything went back to the beginning.

I had about 250GB of data to copy and it took a couple of hours but it did the job I asked of it without any hitches. I just wish I had bought one before, it made light work of what can be a difficult task.

Upgraded from a Windows XP machine to a Windows 10 machine. They are sitting next to each other but I had to transfer thousands of files from the old to new machine. I couldn't get the transfer working via my WiFi router so I looked for a cable connection. There are a number of USB to USB cable transfer cables online but I bought the Plugable one following reviews and the software that came with it. It is excellent. Quick to install on both machines and then to start the process I opened the software on both machines and plugged in the cable. Nothing happened at first (I realise now it was looking for the other computer) but then up came a 'connected' dialog and the main Tools page.

It gives the option to sync both ways, or just one way (old to new or new to old.) Drag and Drop and also the ability to look into the other computer. I brought up my new computer's desktop via that button. I wanted to sync My Documents which took some time as I have over 7000 files in hundreds of folders but when finished there was an exact copy of my old My Documents folder on my new machine. I used USB 2. Would probably work with USB 3 but my XP machine doesn't have it. If you want to drill down the My Documents folder into a sub folder just click the add folder button and a dialog similar to Windows Explorer opens and you can navigate to the folder you want to sync.

I then exited the program and switched the cable from the USB2 connectors on the motherboard (recommended but I have other things plugged into those) and reinserted it via hubs and it also worked a treat. Going via a Hub is not recommended however.

I am very pleased with this device and the software is first class. It does what it says on the tin - it just works.

Being no IT genius, but too tight to pay someone to do my data transfer, I purchased this item with a little trepidation.
I needn't have worried. Transferring data from my old Windows vista laptop to my new Windows 7 was relatively straightforward despite the old laptop being somewhat the worse for wear.
I did have to faff around a bit with downloading drivers to the old machine but all is explained clearly.
I only knocked off a star because a few of my photos were inexplicably left on the old machine. Only a few and they were quickly moved using a memory stick, but if using this item I would recommend having a quick check that nothing important has been left behind.
