Regardless, if you're super serious about podcasting, this won't be the first book or the last one in read. As a suggestion, pay the 0.99 to buy it but don't expect is book to answer your A-Z questions and get you to launch your podcast. Buy it to become familiar with Podcasting, then buying an advanced course later.
For those a bit more serious, check out podcastanswerman.com and also check out Pat Flynns tutorials on his web site. Just do a search on the web, you won't regret it and its free.
Think of this book as the thousand foot view - the overview. This strategizing is just as important as the process of actually creating the podcast, so don't think that I am trying to put down the book. The question asked, the advice given, and concepts introduced can save you a lot of trouble when podcasting.
Overall, I'm glad that I read this book but it isn't the first book I would recommend, especially for $9.99.
With that being said, I did find a few nuggets that I did NOT know before reading this book that were very helpful.
So in summary, if you are interested in podcasting, this is a pretty decent getting started guide. But there are others that are better such as the book by John Lee Dumas. Also check out Dave Jackson and school of podcasting.
Colligan and crew deliver the goods in this short read. With details around creating, saving, distributing and leveraging your podcast, this book serves as the best place to start your new podcasting journey.
While this comprehensive book will certainly appeal to new podcasters, experienced podcasters would be well served to pick up a copy as well. The authors do a nice job of covering more complex issues like ranking, monetizing, and testing your podcasting strategies to make your podcasts the best and most popular they can be.
You will discover the following when you explore this book:
1. Podcasting is more than audio. Discover how you can leverage other content through this medium.
2. Ranking your podcast in iTunes to grow your audience.
3. Strategies on how to monetize your podcast.
4. The technical aspects of podcasting: hosting, uploading, syndication, recording and audio quality.
While the list above isn't comprehensive, these are the major points. While I would have liked for the book to explore a couple of topics, like hosting, a bit deeper, the book does a great job in giving you actionable steps to start or expand your podcasting journey.
I would recommend this book (which can be read cover-to-cover in an afternoon) as a great first step for anyone considering podcasting for recreation or professionally.
The best thing today is that you don't have to be a "pro" to thrive as a podcaster. Anyone with some passion and an idea can grow in this media.
