About the Author
I was working on an encyclopaedia commission for an American academic publisher in 1998 when I met Margaret, to whom Poems Writ for Lublu: A Tragedie in Fifty-one Sonnets is dedicated.
Poetry, which I had only occasionally written, was not one of my writing projects at the time. When I realised the depth of passion my friend had for Shakespeare's sonnets I had a purpose, a challenge.
Composing this sequence remains my best writing discipline, in how an ever more exacting use of words increases a writer's powers of expression. In musical terms poetry is song where verse and music are one.
It prompted me in 2002 to set up a small press (RoseTintedSpecs Imprint) specifically to publish the first 25 of these sonnets written for Margaret.
