This book is edgier than other books I've read by Heather Moore, as far as language and situations, it's like a PG-13 rating.
I felt for Claire and all she'd been put through just because of her intelligence and gifted mind. If there ever was a villain that was pure evil, it's Handel; personally, I think he was a little deranged. I was so glad Claire got a happy ending after all she'd been put through.
I originally read this as part of the Murder and Mayhem boxed set.
I think my stomach was clenched for the majority of this book. It had me on edge and cringing. Intense! Are there really humans out there that do these sort of things to other humans?! I'm sure there are and it just makes me sick. I did feel kind of sick at some points of this book but I'm a lightweight when it comes to thrillers like this. This one had me walking the edge of what I can tolerate. Yes. Lightweight.
Claire is amazing. So smart, so savvy. After all she has been through it's so surprising that she has even a shred of humanity left. That's strength. The book jumps back and forth between the present and varying places in the past until the two collide. It's a crazy ride and you will absolutely love to hate the bad guy. He is pure evil. Ooh, I get the shivers just thinking about him.
And, I have to say, after reading this book, I'm glad I am not a gifted intellectual brainiac because that's what Claire is and look what it got her! I think I'm perfectly content to be average me- just smart enough. ;)
Content: sexual relations outside of marriage with no details, rape described with minimal details leading up to it, swearing (too much for me), violence, torture
- I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed are my own.
Wow! This was intense! Claire was a terrific character--so strong and determined but also so haunted. Paul...oh, he was a great character because of how he progressed during the story. It was really interesting to see him figure out who he really was and what he really wanted. And Handel was soooo creepy and evil! The plot moved quickly and I couldn't put this down because I needed to find out how things would play out!
I received a PDF from the author all views and opinions expressed are my own.
It starts with a mystery, leaves you wondering and then you jump into the same mystery, different girl. What happened?
As you move through the story, things just get more and more complicated. What happened in the blank spaces? Why is Claire like she is now? Who can she trust? Who needs justice?
Everything is resolved eventually, but who will emerge victorious? A page turner with twists you don't see coming and plenty of thrills along the way. I know I was hooked very quickly.
Probably a PG 13 read. I would recommend for older teens and all adults.
You won't be figuring out the ending to this one.
I received a copy and enjoyed the read so much I wanted to review.
I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
Content warning: a little language, rape is mentioned but no details, violence.
