"Poetry" is about poetry and not a book of poetry. It is Q's opinion of what is good poetry, and is a reprint of one of the hardback 'Fellowship Books' edited by Mary Stratton in 1914. There are plenty of blank pages for one's own notes (10). The content more than compensates for the awkward size (7.5ins. x 9.25ins.)but any reprint of this Master's work is a welcome addition to ones library.

Reviews online for this book are generally poor, but I think it's only because the title misleads readers. This is not a book of poems, but rather an exploration of the poet as a creator who is able to reconcile (and translate for the rest of us) his inner harmony with the harmony of the Universe. Quiller-Couch uses lines from great works of literature as well as some of his own to depict the Poet as "a helper of man's most insistent spiritual need." And that is how the book served me, and why I rewarded it 5 stars, for that is what it was for me: a helper as I sought to find the rhythm in the poetry I so adore which is an echo of the rhythm that is bigger than all I see.

While reading it, I loved it, and it made me think that Pound, among others, had used it for his own thinking. However, the half-life of the book was not very long. I had completely forgotten it within about 48 hours.

The author was very in depth and methodical in terms of breaking down the poets nature with themselves and surrounding their work. Very easy to read and be encompassed in thought.

My desire for a good read--curbed and satisfied. I have unveiled much about myself and others through this awe-inspiring compilation. Kuods Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch.
