Point Break (Blu-ray HD3D + Blu-ray)
In “Point Break,” a young FBI agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey), infiltrates a cunning team of thrill-seeking elite athletes–led by the charismatic Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). The athletes are suspected of carrying out a spate of crimes in extremely unusual ways. Deep undercover, and with his life in imminent danger, Utah strives to prove they are the architects of this string of inconceivable crimes. The film is replete with the most daring athleticism ever seen in a motion picture. But the studio twisted the script trying to make the story into a Fast and the Furious ripoff. The director tries to evade that by giving a couple of twists to it, but overall it feels predictable.
Superb acting by most, except the lead Character, he is not bad but just ok.
You can tell that he is trying to do a Paul Walker style of conflicted hero but he never comes across sincere in his aspect to catch the villain or hug him. The romantic interest feels shoehorned and forced. But dont let this take you away, its still a very much enjoyable movie.
With Keanu in the original, you could feel the conflict, the two sides of the main character pulling him in both directions. In this one the good guy wants to catch the bad guy but you never feel that empathy, and he is responsible for a couple of deaths and acts like it doesnt take a toll on him. Never quite convinced me.
On the other side of the coin its Edgar Ramirez in the role of Bodhi. I have never seen Edgar act as good as in this film and for me its his best role so far.
You can feel his motives and emotions, the reality of his conflict, his struggle with the real world and he pulls an "evil counterpart" easy to understand and follow.
This is one of those movies where the bad guy is the one you kinda root for.
I reccomend watching it nonetheless and making your own point of view.
The action scenes, scenery and acting are overall very good and worth your while. Its a shame that the studio tried so hard to copy Fast and The Furious. This could have been a movie with its own identity and could have been amazing.
Still its an enjoyable film.
