This is a fun controller for the new Pokémon Let's Go games, but certain aspects of this controller make it seem like Nintendo REALLY needs to update the firmware.

The bad:
First, there is no way to easily get to the home menu and end your play session when you are using this as a controller. You need to use a Joycon to get yourself to the home menu, or press the power button on your Switch. This gets annoying, because when you're using the PBP as your primary controller, the Switch doesn't want to let you connect a pro controller even if you just want to use it to go home.

In the game, you can shake the PBP to use it as the X/Y button...sometimes. This doesn't work when you're in battle. If you shake the PBP to see details about attacks (Y) it will not work. I've also noticed this happen in other menus like the clothing trunk. Seems like a small oversight, but gets annoying.

The battery life seems lacking. To my knowledge there is no way to see a warning about low battery life! The Switch fully prevents you from using the PBP to go to the home or quick settings menu, so you can't see the battery level icon. I found that this will last 5-6 hours, then suddenly die. Luckily it seems to charge in about a 2-3 hours (but it doesn't alert you when it's full, so I wouldn't know).

The good:
Other than the software/firmware issues, this is so fun to use! I love that I can feel like I'm actually throwing a Poké Ball at the Pokémon on my TV! The wrist strap and ring makes sure the PBP is secure in your hands. The controller is also good for moving in the game, but sometimes it's hard to orient your character because you're using a circular joystick on a sphere, so you often lose your orientation if you move it in your hands slightly.

Mew:
Quite simply, you get one Mew per Poké Ball Plus. This is tied to the serial number so once you claim Mew that's it. You also can not soft reset for nature, Pokémon Let's Go saves as soon as you claim your Mew. You can't take your own Pokémon on strolls until you claim Mew, but otherwise you can claim Mew at any point in the game from the Communication menu.

The extra:
Taking your Pokémon for strolls is cute, and you can choose to play with your Pokémon my holding down the joystick. I also love that you can connect this to Pokémon Go and use it as an enhanced Pokémon Go Plus. Rumor has it, that if you connect it to Pokémon Go while you have a Pokémon on a stroll from Pokémon Let's Go, that Pokémon will automatically spin PokéStops for you!

Conclusion:
I think the Poké Ball Plus is a wonderful and fun idea, but some updating is definitely needed to smooth out the hiccups.

Pokeball Plus works with my Switch perfectly. I have not used it with my smartphone/Pokemon Go, yet, but I did sync the Pokeball Plus with my Pokemon Go game on my smartphone. I just have not traveled around town with it yet to see if it really works as advertised. All of the packaging and documentation that came with the ball was in Japanese, so I have had to figure out how to use it as I go along. Still, syncing the Pokeball Plus with my Pokemon Go was easy, because the game is all in English.

The poke ball plus released just over 2 years ago and since then it’s price inflated considering it’s initial price of 50 dollars. For context, this item is a special Joy Con made to play Pokémon games on the switch (It also can be used on Pokémon go), but on top of this, every new poke balls plus is supposed to come with a gifted mew. I was very skeptical of buying a new one online, especially with some sketchy reviews on I’ve seen. However I ordered one and it was in perfect condition and much more importantly I could redeem the gifted mew. The only real problem was the price which is more than it was when it first released, however since the product was completely satisfactory it’s something I can live with, especially since it isn’t being manufactured by Nintendo anymore, meaning finding a brand new poke ball plus with a mew will only get harder.

Connectivity issues with smartphones (android and Apple)

I got one of these for myself, one for my husband, and one for my best friend for Christmas. They are great...most of the time.
I like that I can walk/ride by pokestops without having to get on my phone to spin them and I can set it to see Pokémon and catch or not catch them with a click of a button. Unless there’s a special one or field research, I would rather hatch more eggs in less time vs spending more time catching them.
Problem: it wasn’t always as bad as it’s gotten over the relatively short time of a month, but it disconnects on its own for no reason. I mean if I’m going to be going through a part of town with a ton of stops in a row, I’ll check before I leave the parking spot and I’ll get the spins. It removes any and all FOMO that had me wanting to have my phone out in that area. However, more and more I will realize it’s not detecting anything and I’ll see that it’s disconnected. That is somehow better than it not doing anything and it looks connected.
Yes, this is compatible with Apple (my phone) and Android (husband and friend) but I suspect that was thrown in at the last moment out of fear that not enough Switch player would buy it.
Great product, they do lose a star for connectivity, but I struggled between 3 star and 4 stars.

I don't use the Pokemon catching feature because I like to do that myself, but I use it for the ball and item catching feature. I live in a rural area and running out of balls, healing sprays and the like is very common. But I do drive through a lot of areas with stops and this little ball allows me to sweep them up with zero distraction for me, the driver. About every 4th time I turn it on, it goes a little hinky and won't connect with my phone. Usually I just have to keep trying and it connects, but it can be a little frustrating. Overall, it works like a dream for what I need it to do!

Doesn't connect correctly, disconnects constantly, works too slowly for even a slow bike ride-- when it actually works, vibrates too loudly, vibrates too often, vibrates for too long, and is generally unpleasant to hold and/or use.

If you turn off catch pokemon in the settings so that it only spins stops, and make sure your phone screen stays off, the ball will remain connected for a moderate amount of time, but will not warn you when it disconnects, so it's possible you've wandered around for an hour without accomplishing anything. I know I have. Many times.

Edit: Niantic has started bricking third party devices to sell this one, if you buy this one for any reason currently, you are supporting them holding you hostage.

I wanted to be able to catch some pokemon while at work. It fits in my pocket and I put a little bump on the top of it (sticker) so I know where to press when I can't see it. I can tell when it has disconnected because there is a long delay in the next alert that there is a pokemon nearby. I wish it wasn't disconnecting so much, but I still really like it and am glad I bought it. It is obviously overpriced but then again, what isn't overpriced now.
