The games do have some modern conveniences for better or worse. On the plus side the load times are so much better. Gone are the days of waiting over 10 seconds as one shot a pokemon and watch its health bar slowly drain. Save times also take less than a tenth of the time it used to. Types work like they do in modern games. So fairy type is here, dark moves are super effective on steel psychic types and dark ghost type now have a weakness fairy type for a few examples. Pokemon have a wider move pool, so for example Kricketot can actually attack now, as opposed to just having bide back in Pearl and Diamond.
As for mixed bag. The remakes use Pearl and Diamonds pokedex as opposed to Platinum pokedex. That means a large part of gen 4 new pokemon are only available post game. Magnezone, Lickilicky, Rhyperior, Tangrowth, Electivire, Magmortar, Togekiss, Yanmega, Leafeon, Glaceon, Gliscor, Mamoswine, Porygon-Z, Gallade, Probopass, Dusknoir, Froslass, Rotom and several legendries are only available after that the elite four. It was a bummer back than and still is now. The games trainers are also at the same levels as the original games. That means being you can't turn off the experience share your team will be over leveled before long. But on the plus side the national dex has the entire first 4 generations of pokemon available post game.
That all being said it's a great remake. It's a very faithful remake and thus feels pretty different from modern pokemon games. There's less hand holding and far less cut scenes makes it a very fun change of pace. If you like playing pokemon and haven't gotten to play the original pearl and diamond or if you just wish you could play those games on a modern console. Than I highly recommend Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond. Overall I would give these remakes a 8.5 out of 10. -MickManga
instead they did not add a disclaimer saying "download required" and are falsely selling the game as not requiring a download to have all the features advertise prior to release
if anyone cares about having a game that work 20 years from now then avoid launch days copies of the game and wait a year or two for revised cartridges that will include the update on cart instead of wasting money on games that will not work as intended 20 years down the line
this is is the last time i purchase a Pokemon game at full price expecting for the Pokemon company to deliver what was advertise to consumer on day one being on cart during their pr marketing for the game and not delivering on what was promised.
anyone who does not want to be ripped off by false advertisement avoid the game at all cost
I'm sure he game is fine in on itself but misleading customer into buying a game which did not include a "download required" logo as other Nintendo switch games do is bad on the Pokemon company part
for duping ppl into thinking it would be selling feature complete titles
that would at least include what was being put out by marketing that would be there.

The bundle is nice, especially if you're wanting some extra Poke Balls to start your adventure.
Thank you Game Freak😄

The games are a square for square remake of the original Diamond and Pearl, respectively. NO PLATINUM IMPROVEMENTS. There are visual glitches with the camera when entering battles (at the time I post this), the games are rather ugly in the overworld. Pokemon following you are a great bonus and the improved underground.
If you know what Diamond and Pearl were like there are no surprises to be found.
