Spence Polanski is the embalmer for Polanski Brothers funeral home. She's a vampire, so she'll be doing this for a very long time, and she comes with one glowing recommendation, she has no sense of smell. This counts as a big time plus when you are the embalmer at a funeral home, but it's a gigantic minus for her love life, as her family recognizes their life mates through the sense of smell.
After she embalms the body of Alan Perkins, a young man who apparently committed suicide, she finds her world goes totally crazy. Since she also helps at the showings, she was at his viewing when she very literally stumbled into Detective Larkin McBride, a man who was very easy on the eyes. As she was admiring him, mentally tallying his many great attributes and wondering if he was also a vampire, he reacted very strangely. It seemed that he thought she was speaking out loud, but he was reading her mind!
When he realized that he now could read her mind, thank God only hers, he wanted to know why she thought he might be a *vampire*. Since he didn't believe in their existence, and she couldn't reveal them to humans, she was in deep do-do. She was trying to convince him he was crazy when he also revealed that Alan was his good friend, and Larkin thought he may have been murdered. To really complicate matters, Spencer found a vampire bite on his neck when she reexamined his body before turning it over to the coroner for the second autopsy.
As Spencer tries to solve murders that appear to be vampire related, fend off a vampire suitor who is trying to convince her family that he is her life mate, and keep Larkin at arm's length without admitting to her vampire status, she is one very busy vampire indeed. And distracted, because her feelings for Larkin are starting to turn to love.
If you like lighthearted romance, great mystery, and laughing out loud, I think you'll love Dakota's books as much as I do. Give them a try for a quick read (because you can't put the book down until it's finished)!
The story is good, but it's not a standalone book. That's the only bad part about it.
Spencer Polanski is a vampire embalmer working in her family's funeral home. They are a peaceful clan who find their life mates thru their sense of smell. Unfortunately, Spencer has a bum nose! When a sexy detective shows up to investigate his friend's death and can hear Spencer's thoughts her family's secrets are not safe. Can't wait to see what happens next!!
Next, you have a few suspicious deaths with vampire bites on the back of the victims necks including Detective Larkins best friend Alan. Now you have a recipe for disaster for Spencer's family. Wow and that is just part one I can't wait to read what happens next this story is packed with questions and a hidden desire for a sexy Detective, poor Spencer she needs to solve these murders and since her family are the only vampires in town then she has to start looking there first. Want to know more pick up the book and all of its parts, like I did and enjoy the story.
I highly recommend this book and this author to everyone who loved paranormal romances. I know you will love it as much as I did. Be sure to pick up a copy you will be very very glad that you did.
