Soft Strap Care and Maintenance Tips
- Before your workout, thoroughly moisten the electrode areas of the strap with water.
- Rinse the strap under running water after every use and hang dry.
- Clean the strap gently with mild soap and water solution when needed.
- Dry and store the strap and connector separately to maximize the heart rate sensor battery lifetime. Wash the strap before long-term storage, and always after use in pool water with high chlorine content.

I read several online blog and forum posts that suggested this Polar strap would work with the Garmin HR monitor, and having just ordered and tested it for myself, I can say that it works like a charm.
The build quality on this strap seems better than the Garmin one, too. The elastic feels firmer and the electrodes are a bit "stickier". There are also nice detailed features like a soft fabric tab that covers up the metal hinge where it would otherwise make contact with your skin (presumably to eliminate chafing issues).
If you are frustrated with your current Garmin strap, don't hesitate to switch to this one.
Unfortunately, the newer material used in the manufacturing of this strap does not seem as robust as the older products. The image below is a picture of the strap I received with the watch in July 2014, please note he curling near the label. I am not able to determine the cause of the problem, but have moved from machine wash to hand wash after multiple usage. This curling did not occur with the prior bands and have not noticed any problems with signal transmission as of yet. On the positive side, the newer material stays put during workouts and does not fall off, a problem encountered with older products. Additionally, the older heart rate transmitters work with the new strap, which is great as I have three.
I am a big fan of Polar products, found them to be the most accurate, dependable and durable in my 9 + years of usage. I use primarily for running, cardio, weight lifting, and occasionally skiing.
When I got the strap it did require some slight modifications to be compatible with the monitor device. The plastic around the snaps sticks up a little higher than the snap, and prevents it from snapping into the garmin monitor. I was able to trim this plastic away with a pair of scissors and since it's hidden by the monitor, it doesn't matter than it's now a little jagged and doesn't look perfect. This strap has worked great! I've had it for almost a year now and it's still working fine. It has far outlasted my garmin straps (both in time and number of uses). No complaints so far, this is way better than the garmin straps and costs less!
A word of warning, though. There is a rubber rim around the snaps that cause the Garmin pod to not stay on securely. I was able to cut the top off of each rim, which fixed the issue.
