I am a speech language pathologist, and I use this book in my therapy sessions. I start with the brown bear brown bear book, and after they have mastered that book this is the next one. Children benefit from repetitive language, and I have taught many children how to talk through the , and I always use brown bear and polar bear books. We read them over and over and over until the children have memorized the language. I also teach them memory and sequencing because they have to remember the animals in order and tell what's coming next in the book before we master the book.

We have the whole series! My son's favorite is Brown Bear but he likes a lot this too
This book, like the others, is interactive and rhythmic, you can introduce the names of the animals and the sounds they make.
Children learn easily colors, what sounds each animal makes and even counting how many characters are in the book.
The illustrations are so unique and eye catching, the colors are bright, the pages are sturdy and the story holds their attention.
The book finishes with a summary of all that the children have seen.
The hard board book is easy to hold and very durable.
A must have

We have accumulated over 15 Eric Carle books for our animal-obsessed 26 month-old boy.
This book, along with the Baby Bear and Panda Bear, was the most recent addition to the collection.
I simply bought all three because he loves the Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do you See? book, without realizing that this book has a clear reason to rise to the top. Unlike the other Bear books by Eric Carle, I can make up various sounds that each animal makes as we turn the pages together, which was endlessly amusing to our toddler.
I had to read this book with him 10 times last night before he agreed to move onto another book. I might have bought the sound-added board book when he were younger (<2yo) and easily amused by pressing buttons, but it adds fun to make up new sounds as we read the book together.

Love all of the board books in this series. Toddler enjoys the anticipation of guessing what is seen on the next page. Helpful in learning colors, animals, sounds, etc. Can't go wrong, buy them all! Book quality is wonderful as well. Sturdy pages. Bound well.

My grandsons pre k class read brown bear what do you see. When i started reading the polar bear he kept trying to correct me until i showed him the pictures. I wish though that the sounds were more true to live. a flamingo fluting ( how do you explain fluting to a 4 year old) otherwise a great book to go with the brown bear one.

This is a great book for teaching toddlers about animals. The pictures are colorful and large . The repetition of the language is perfect for toddlers who are learning to talk. I made soft animals for my toddlers to play with and match with the animals in the book. It is a favorite game and makes the book interactive.

this book is absolute a must. it teaches toddlers as well as adults. great pictures and rhymes, my daughter loves looking and hearing it. not that i expect that she learns words like trumpeting, roaring etc. at this stage, but it seems to be an evergreen book. so i am certain we ll use it in the future too.

The artwork in this book is good, in the usual Eric Carle style
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 20, 2015Verified Purchase
The artwork in this book is good, in the usual Eric Carle style. Some of the animals are quite exotic, so for some of them (flamingo and peacock) it is quite difficult to figure out what sort of noise they make. The flow to the book also seems a little off on occasion when you're reading out loud (boa constrictor and hippopotamus are too long to fit properly). Brown Bear, Brown Bear is a better book, but this does introduce some more exotic animals.

We love this book. We use hippo instead of hippopotamus and snake instead of boa constrictor as that's easier for our little one. Nice book in the series.

Nice sturdy book, although doesn't have reveal flaps or sensory aspects, so doesn't hold my granddaughter's attention as other books do, but I think it's still a good book to have in the collection.

I wasn't sure about ordering a board book (it was a present for my nephew) but when they arrived (I brought 'The very quiet cricket' at the same time) I was impressed.
I was familiar with both these stories.
I work with preschool children and they love guessing which animal will appear next.
Eric Carle uses those lovely onomatopoeic words describing the noises of the animals and birds, introducing new vocabulary. Just as enjoyable for the adult to read expressively.
