About the Author

Will Montgomery is a Christian writer and speaker living in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born into a wonderful family in Wilmington, North Carolina and grew up attempting to balance a keen sensibility to pop culture while growing daily in his faith. His first book, "The Polar Bear," uses poignant stories and humorous anecdotes from his life to illustrate theology for the everyday believer. "Lukewarm" is his second book, and since he's a middle child, he feels as if this novel is a lot like him; attention-grabbing, divisive, unflinchingly honest, funny, real, cynical, and a must read. He is an up-and-coming speaker and desires to share his Biblical worldview with you. Also, he likes the Lakers, loathes onions, and loves Jesus.

The Polar Bear delves far below the surface of our calling as witnesses to the love of God. The author writes candidly, addressing the issues that hold back most of today's society christians with poignant depth coupled with a whallop of humor. It will challenge your heart and your actions to make a greater impact in your everyday and extended circles. A delightfully balanced equation of humor and thought-provoking insight packed into a very compelling read.

In light of the fact that I have now read MOST of this EXCELLENT BOOK, I am upgrading my review. I also had communication with the Author who seems to be a very humble and sincere man who actually did a REMARKABLE JOB with the telling of his tale. I originally had concerns over the book description, or lack thereof; however, I really don't think it matters at this point! Far be it from me to prevent anyone from reading this WONDERFUL BOOK due to my prior remarks. As such, I upgrade my review of THE POLAR BEAR to 4 Stars, with the remaining star to be determined at a later time.

I feel that is is IMPORTANT for me to revise this review right away, even though I am still in the midst of reading the book, because the Author produced a well written and very interesting story of which I am enjoying very much. I wish all the best of luck to him and look forward to reading more from him in the future.

So my new review is that THE POLAR BEAR is a great book and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thank you.

After reading another of Will's books, I chose to read this book because I enjoyed the previous work. I was not disappointed. While this book was not what I expected, it demonstrates a thoughtful approach to Christianity that closely matches much of my own thinking. Read this book if you are looking for a down-to-earth approach to following Christ. You will not be disappointed, either!

I was confused by the title, thinking that the book was about some brave adventure that Montgomery had experienced which involved a polar bear. I was quite surprised, therefore, to discover that the book is, "simple theology for the everyday Christian and how it relates in our culture today."

The polar bear analogy is representative of one the strengths of the book. Montgomery is a master analogist, using real life examples that beautifully illustrate his points. The title The Polar Bear, for example, arises out of his desire to be a "polarizing" writer who drives people to live beyond the lukewarm Christianity that so plagues our nation.

The book is divided into two sections. The first section deals with issues about the life of a Christian living in the world, and includes chapters on culture, speech, character, truth, faith, and love. Each chapter utilizes excellent personal examples and is clarion call to live radically different from the world. Montgomery's beef with modern Christianity, which I share, is that the differences between a Believer and a non-Christian are less and less apparent in today's society.

The second section is a basic detailing of fundamental doctrines of faith, including chapters on sin, salvation, sanctification, prayer, eternity, and God. Each of these "doctrines" are immense subjects that are so deep often entire books are written about each subject. However, Montgomery achieves a simple explanation of these principles and their importance in living a "polar bear" faith.

In places the book is laugh-out-loud funny, and the book works because of Montgomery's personal examples which are transparent and self-deprecating. It is rare to say that a book about such a serious subject is a fun read, yet that is exactly what Montgomery achieves in The Polar Bear.

I enjoyed this book. I could relate about hearing someone pray using a name in every sentence. A pastor I know uses Father in every sentence when he prays . I don't mean to criticize pastor but it does grates on my nerves.

This is a spirtual motivational book. It is not what I expected. I am pretty sure it was a free download and I am glad. I didn't finish it. I felt the author wasn't sure who his audience was and I felt as if he was talking to a youth Sunday School Class - perhaps a better audience than a middle aged woman.
