About Polar Bottle
Robert Heiberger and Judy Amabile founded Product Architects, Inc. (Polar Bottle) in 1994 from a garage in Boulder, Colorado. As avid cyclists and budding entrepreneurs, they wanted to develop a bottle unlike anything else on the market that would keep liquids cool during long rides. Robert, a mechanical engineer with experience working with heat loss in the field of medical technology design, adapted his expertise to create the insulated Polar Bottle water bottle. From there, he and Judy began making the reusable insulated water bottles by hand with plastics sourced from Denver, Colorado that they picked up themselves in a family mini van.

Both when filled with ice cubes and water stayed cold through the 1st hour of my ride in 95 degree heat. the remaining bottle stayed cool over the next hour when temps went up above 100 degrees. So not thermos quality to be sure but keep it cold long enough because you would empty these bottles in two hours in heat. Oh there was no condensation on the outside so that shows there is some insulation going on because my rides are in NC where the humidity is always high. Finally the strap that comes with these seem to be worthless on a bike and if you leave it the wrong way it is annoying when your leg hits it on every peddle stroke. Again a feature better suited to those using it for and exercise class of land based sports.
The Key feature is that you get a good flow of liquid and I am not so sure that it a fix for an actual problem. At the end of a hot ride I do like that I can get a good amount quickly but during a ride, not sure that it is much better than a standard bottle. It does insulate to an extent and I had cold liquid in it for and hour and a half that was still cold after a ride that were the temp was in the upper 80s. Good enough for me. I like that the one I got is orange so it adds visibility and if you should drop it on a group ride it certainly will be seen.
I read some that had trouble getting it to work and mid ride I was ready to give it a 1 star because press as hard as I could nothing came out. However, at the end of the ride I discovered that the nozzle goes in and out. Out allows you to get liquid. the design keeps the opening closed until you press on the bottle so I had assumed that feature was what kept things from coming out. Wrong. with it in the out position it works just fine. Like other reviews I am concerned about all the places things can hide from cleaning but that is true in so many other designs so I think every bottle has the same problem albeit to a lesser extent. Ultimately I will buy a few more which I think speaks to my real evaluation of this bottle.
From the pictures I had assumed it would be a BRIGHT (almost neon) orange, but turned out to be a rather “flat”, dull-looking tangerine orange color. Was hoping it would kinda match the flavor (or tone) of my Polygon Orange Heist bike, but it did not.
The High Flow Zip Top WAS outstanding though, so that pretty much evens out the small disappointment (1st World Problems, yes, I agree). So, if you’re ok with the flat orange color, this bottle/zip top combo was a very good value.
Ease of cleaning is good as the valve/mouthpiece can be removed from the cap, though not perfect because the indentations on the interior of the bottle make deeper scrubbing take too much time to be worth doing every time. As the valve/mouthpiece must be twisted to be removed from the cap, do that BEFORE you start cleaning the whole thing, otherwise you won't be able to get a good grip on it.
Overall solid function, value, and durability.
