Product Description

Polaroid Auto Focus DG Macro Extension Tubes are designed to enable your lens to focus closer than its normal set minimum focusing distance, this way you can magnify your subject. The tubes are very useful for macro photography. The extension tubes have no glass. The Extension tubes are attached between the camera body and the lens. This set consists of three tubes, the tubes may be used singly or in combination with one another for a total of seven different lengths. Each tube is provided with a mounting bayonet and electrical contacts which match those of your particular camera choice. The contacts allow the camera's lens to respond to its automatic exposure system giving you a perfect exposure each time.

Wasn't quite ready to dish out for a dedicated and pricy macro lens (for my T3i), so after some consideration of other various options, I opted for a set of extension tubes. The Kenko's seem to be the creme de la creme, but they also came with a hefty $200 price. I came across these Polaroid tubes, and decided to take a chance - being less than 1/2 the cost of Kenko, and having some decent reviews on various photog sites.

Quite satisfied with the build quality on all 3 tubes - the bayonet, release mechanism and mating ring are made of metal, and fit the camera & lens quite snugly...I would not worry about the lens falling off as with some cheaply made eBay offerings. When locked down, there is no play anywhere - everything fits nice & tight. The electrical contacts are solid, no communication issues with the lens. The contacts are what set this apart from non-contact tubes (including the higher price), but well worth it if you're like me and want to maintain TTL metering & control. As with any tube, AF is very slow to lock in lower light situations, I use MF when needed.

Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase, and consider these to be an economical alternative to Kenko, while still getting a solid & well built product. Nothing against Kenko, but considering these are just tubes, I find their price over the top.

I bought these to use with my Canon EOS REBEL T4i 18.0 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 18-135mm EF-S IS STM Lens and it does the trick just fine. I use a prime lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens. This gives me great macro capabilities without spending $500+ on a short macro lens. Autofocus and metering worked just fine.

I used these with my Canon t1i and the Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. I was able to get closer than 3:1 and was able to fill the frame with the words "in God we trust" on a quarter. At that point the DOF was probably less than 1mm so focus stacking is a must.

These extension tubes allow you to use your current lens for macro photography while still maintaining use of both auto focus and image stabilization while avoiding the use of some cheap macro lens that attaches to the front of your current lens and delivers mediocre results.

Well manufactured and easy to mount. AF works fine, no issues. I have managed to achieve satisfactory macro results but didn't have time to make a "serious" macro session as yet. Anyway, being an amateur I would recommend it to anyone who wants to experiment with photography. More demanding users probably should go for a proper macro lens set.

I am (or was) using these on my Canon 5DM3. They are very difficult to get on or off my camera and all of my lenses. So much so that I'm concerned they will damage a lens mount or the contacts. They also don't click into place and I almost dumped a $2k lens when one rotated while on the camera. I get that they're inexpensive but I don't trust these to not damage either an expensive lens or my camera. I also found that auto-focus rarely worked when using these.

I wanted to do some macro photography but am just starting out. And these extension tubes are a great way to try it out, without the huge expense of a macro lens. I suggest using a tripod too....

I'm still working with them . . . focusing is an issue, but; I think it's due to the subject matter. I think when I get used to them, and learn a few tricks I will be better able to review them.
