As for all this talk I hear of there being no off switch, I think this is really a non-issue, because the unit uses so little power when it's not on your camera. A digital watch, for example, will run for years on a tiny little battery, and this unit isn't even using that much power in standby. The brochure that accompanied the unit says that it will last two years on standby on one set of batteries. I use energizer lithium, I expect few problems, and keep a couple spares in my bag. I imagine the Canon counterpart has an off switch, but it'll cost an extra $100.
You basically have 3 options: delay, long, and interval. Delay counts down from a specified time. You can set it by seconds or minutes. Push the start button and it'll count down until it releases the shutter. The long selection allows you to hold the shutter open for an amount of time that you specify. But the main reason I purchased this intervalometer was to do time lapse photography. All you have to do is set the interval between shots, the number so shots you want to take, adjust your camera's settings in manual mode, and push start.
I would probably give this a 4.5 only because there's no ON/OFF switch. Other than that, it's a good timer control for the price.
Update: I've been using this intervalometer for six years now, for night photography and star trails. Currently using it on Canon 5D Mark IV. It has been a champ; never a problem. My only issue with it is the straight-in plug design. It is sometimes a challenge to find the correct orientation of the pins. I was hoping by now they would have updated the design of the plug to the more common L-shape, which leaves no question on orientation when you plug it in. I'll leave the rating at four stars because of that, but it has otherwise been a great product.
Only 2 issues, neither of which was a deal breaker for me:
1) The LCD light is kind of dim and not very bright even in pitch black environments. Maybe it's nice to have a dim backlight, but I think this product could have used a slightly brighter backlight.
2) There is no power switch, so you'll have to take the batteries out when not in use in order to save battery life. This isn't that big of a deal, but it does create a bit more 'clutter' in my camera bag. However, it's not a huge deal since you should remove batteries from any device if you won't be using it for a while to prevent the battery from leaking/exploding.

Hands up ! i unashamedly bought this for the brand name 'Polaroid'. I'm travelling 10,000 on a trip to New Zealand and had to ensure i had an Intervalometer with some fair degree of reliability. I have had similar no name Intervalometers and they worked fine, although some had the little attachment to the end of the wire which could come loose).
This Intervalometer is all built in - no extension wires. plugs straight sungly and firmly into your camera. The moulding/plastics on the end plug seem quality made, and overall It does seems slightly more rugged than other brands although looking the same.
Get it - it is a reassuring product.
Nice, clear instructions in English is reassuring, also qualityt box and packaging.
I can never give something 5 star unless it had a testament to the build quality and legacy - for example, i could give a Jaguar 5 star, or my Canon 1DX MK II 5 star...Claridges Restuarant in London, 5 star. Bt this Intervolmete is the only reason i can give 4 star is simply hasn't been tried tested, dropped, sunk in water, etc. But still a really good product so far.

Even with no instructions in the dark and never owned one before I worked this out in a few minutes and it worked flawlessly all night.
Once the battery's are in it's on constantly so I take one battery out when not using. Has a light built in for night use if you have no torch.
