I guess it would work for some irons, but I have one of the Rowenta irons, and while I can lay the iron flat on the holder, when I do that the steam continues to come out. The Rowenta iron has rounded edges where I guess it's supposed to fit in the slot on the holder to make it stand partially upright, therefore stopping the steam until you start ironing again. So, it definitely DOES NOT WORK FOR ROWENTA IRONS.

I recommend this iron rest - it is very simple to install and gives several really useful and needed advantages, compared to ironing board without it.
1) The iron rests on it ALMOST horizontally (in a small angle) - which has a couple of advantages, compared to vertical position:
I accidentally knocked my previous iron down and broke it, when it was staying vertically on the iron board. The horizontal position of the iron is much more stable and safe;
the wire guards around perimeter also help to prevent from such accidents.
My iron goes into sleep mode, when it stays in vertical position for several minutes, which is a good safety feature - in case I forgot to turn it off and left,
but inconvenient, when I have to wait for it to warm up.
2) It adds more free space on the ironing board.

I have peace of mind now that I place my hot iron on the iron rest after I finish ironing. It is also out of my way while I'm arranging garments onto the ironing board. It keeps me from accidently bumping the hot iron. I would buy it again.

I purchased this iron rest to hold my new steam generated iron and free up space on my ironing board. I could have bought a new board with the iron rest built on, but love the size and sturdiness of my old board. The iron rest attached easily and is very stable and strong, so I have no fear of it falling off.

The Polder Iron Rest is the perfect solution for a 'big board' ironing surface that doesn't have a built in rest. Bonus feature - the design allows it to be clamped anywhere on the board....right/left/front/back... doesn't matter!

I am a quilter, so my ironing board in the study is always out with the iron is on it. I also use my ironing board for doing layout as it allows me to do so without bending down (important because of back problems). Since I am around my ironing board a lot I have knocked down the iron to the floor quite a few times. Not good for the iron (had to replace at least one iron) and not good for the floor (have a gouge in the wood floor).

I have tried this Iron rest, which improved things but did not provide a totally satisfactory solution.

I liked:
1) Having more ironing surface, since it clips to the ironing board
2) Reasonably priced

What I did not like
1) It stucks out from the ironing board. In my sewing room set up this did not work well, it was either in the way when approching the board, or hanging over the sewing table, also in the way.
2) Because it was in the way, I managed to almost knock it down, so it did not solve my original problem
3) When iron was full of water, it dripped on my wood floor

Eventually I found a solution that does work perfectly for me - a silicone iron rest. Whitney Designs 3131 Silicone Iron Rest Pad The Silicone Iron Rest pad is heat resistant and non-slip. It is very stable. As an added bonus the pad is water proof, so if the water leaks out it stays on the pad.

I have a Rowenta DW8080 Pro Master Steam Iron. It will steam constantly it is in the flat or near flat position. Before purchasing this product, I tried several flat silicone and metal iron rests that were placed on the ironing board. None of these seemed stable enough to me, and as previously stated, the iron steamed constantly in the flat position. There have been some complaints about this iron rest with Rowenta irons. I found that you can slightly bend both of the slanted silicone rest trays in opposite directions to keep your iron around a 45-degree angle. This solves the problem of constant steaming. I also had no problems with the iron fitting into the rest in any plane after making the aforementioned tray adjustments.
