Cannot say enough good things about this Strainer/Steamer/Blancher.
Used it the first day I received it to blanch potatoes before putting
them into my dehydrator. Was very impressed with the mesh construction and footed bottom of the Polder Basket, and was able to easily grip the
handle with bare hand and lift my potatoes from a boiling pot of
water without feeling any heat to hand. So impressed by the
depth of strainer and its very reasonable price. I plan to use this
wonderful help-mate throughout the canning season. Don't know how I've
gotten along before without one in my kitchen. Very versatile item.

Been looking for this for years...had something similar but it got lost in a house fire. Never thought to look under "steamer" !! [Cannot imagine why I would use this as day-to-day-steamer..maybe at a restaurant level, but not for a family. Frankly, I think AMAZON has mis-named it!.]

Have large country garden and a local farmer's market. Buy when veggies are cheap or available and put food by in the freezer. Biggest pain in freezing = blanching. Dumping the food into boiling water is no problem, but scooping it out at the end of, say exactly 3 minutes, is hell without something large nough to scoop out at least most. (One of the reasons I don't cut up string beans and gave up on freezing peas and cut corn.)

With this basket, all goes in at once and all comes out at once. Perfect. Will sure make blanching control easier. The basket appears to be made to commercial restaurant quality. It is 7 1/2 (19cm) " high by 9 1/2" (24cm)in diameter. Fits perfectly inside of a 14 litre-14 quart stock pot. Also fits inside our pressure canner. Best quess is it holds at least two litres of produce. .
The insulated handle = greatly appreciated.

I make my own chicken and beef broth on a regular basis. Before I bought this strainer, I always had to pour a giant pot of scalding hot broth through a standard-shaped strainer into a bowl, which resulted in a big mess and occasional burns because the bones always fell out last and splashed into the bowl when it was nearly full. Then I'd scrub, scrub, scrub....and scrub...and scrub...the pot, which would have a filthy bottom and sides as well as a sort of bathtub ring around the rim where the fat/skin/etc. collected at the top of the pot.

This strainer fits inside my Le Creuset stockpot like it was made for it. I removed the handle, which just pops in and out, so it didn't interfere at all with the fit of the lid. When I made broth with the strainer, it couldn't have been easier to lift the strainer, chicken bones, etc. contained neatly inside, out of the pot and dump it in the trash, leaving a pot full of strained broth with no mess and no burns. Yes! Then I went to wash the pot and discovered that the bottom and sides weren't grimy at all and there was only a thin ring around the top, which took next to no scrubbing to clean. Yay! Then I rinsed the strainer and put it in the dishwasher, and it came out sparkling. Joy!

Last night, I decided to see if the strainer could improve on my asparagus pot, which is tall and narrow with a specially designed steamer insert and vented glass lid. The asparagus pot is a good idea in theory, but has never worked that well for me in practice because the thin asparagus tops still get mushy while the thicker bottoms aren't as done as I'd like. The Polder beat the asparagus pot (which is now in the Salvation Army donation pile) hands-down: it made perfect, evenly steamed spears.

This strainer is also handy if you're into juicing; its depth makes it perfect for holding a lot of whole fruits and veggies for cleaning. Depending on your level of fastidiousness, you can wash them one by one and move them to a large bowl or else just rinse the whole strainer-full.

Bottom line: this strainer is a fabulous tool. It makes cooking and cleaning so much quicker and easier that I don't know how I ever managed without it. I LOVE this thing, and I'm not in the habit of waxing lyrical over kitchen utensils, I promise you.
