Polder has been offering everyday products with extraordinary design since its launch. The company was established in 1976, delivering better quality European-styled housewares to the U.S. market. Polder found early in success in ironing and storage, and also launched the industry's first line of digital in-oven thermometers, equipped with a long cord so consumers could digitally monitor food without removing it from the oven. Through the years, Polder has built an eclectic collection of core home categories, including kitchen timers and thermometers, laundry and ironing products, kitchen scales, and a variety of other storage solutions. Polder products are tested and certified for their consistent high quality by independent standards labs.
Top Customer Reviews
The Polder works very well. Quick response, lighted display, runs on standard AAA batteries - no crazy button batteries that you can't find when you need them, has presets for various meats and levels of doneness. All in all it works well and does what you want an instant read thermometer to do. Oh, and it is a lovely shade of red.
What don't I like. Well, when it is folded for storage it is 12.5 inches long and because of the shape of the unit, it takes up a lot of space in the kitchen drawer.
Am I happy with the unit? Yes, otherwise not a 4 star rating. Would I be happier if it were not so large? Yes, but I'm not unhappy either.
If storage space is a concern for you, I'd look for something more compact. If not, one big advantage of this unit is the ability to take readings from meat on a hot grille without burning the hair right off your hand. Oh, and the nice red color means you're less likely to leave it out on the deck when overnight to get rained on, not that I ever did that.
It's long enough to hold comfortably away from the heat. It's fast and the light up display is going to be a big help as summer gives way to fall. I thought it's accuracy was off on my first try, so I checked against my old, short "tried and true" that always shorts out in the heat and it was right on the money.
I'm very pleased with this purchase so far. If you want a long reach fast reading thermometer, I would recommend it.
It reads quickly and accurately.
It has a light
It has various meat setting if you don't know what temp to cook things to
Reads both C and F
Pro/Con: This is either a pro or a con depending on you. The probe is much longer than the body of the unit. As a result when folded the probe sticks past the end of the handle. Not really a con, but makes storage a bit more difficult. The pro part of this is the long probe means you can keep your hands further away from the fire so you don't cook your hand while checking the food you cooked.
Con: there is a push button on the side you have to use to get the probe to unfold all the way, I keep wanting to just unfold it.
Overall this is a great addition to my BBQ tool set.
