Police Academy Training: Survival Tips from a Veteran Academy Instructor Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 63 ratings

I am not a writer, but, what I am is a hero builder. What I do is not for everyone, and the men and women that I build are extraordinary people. They are the ones that keep you safe, and will give their lives to prove it if necessary.

You can test to be a police officer, pass the hiring process to be a police officer, and tell everyone that you want to be a police officer. But, you will never be a police officer until you get through me. I am the academy instructor. Instructors are the best of the best. We have already completed most of the challenges that lay ahead for you. We have also proven ourselves on the streets, and know what it takes to survive.

I will tell you what you need to know in order to be successful at a police academy as well as help you understand the riggers of training that you will endure. I refuse to baby you, so I will be very straight forward. The streets are tough, and so are the instructors. The police academy is sacred. Some of the bravest people I have ever met have given their lives in the line of duty. I refuse to tarnish their honor by allowing someone that is not prepared to fill their shoes.

If you are ready for a life of service and sacrifice, then you are reading in the right place. Welcome to my house, now let’s get to work.

As a 20 year veteran officer myself this books brings back memories of my police academy training. The author captures the intensity of what the training is like while also showing the caring the instructors have for the trainees. I also liked the feeling of brotherhood among officers shown in the book which comes out through the instructors truly wanting the trainees to succeed. VERY good read for anyone getting ready to start police academy training. Pay attention to the author explaining how to prepare your mind and body and you can make it through!

It makes you feel like reality has set in prior to starting the academy and know what to expect. Love it

As I get prepared to go to the academy myself, I figured this would be an interesting read to help bring some clarity on what to expect. This book exceeded my expectations and more! While it isn't the most grammatically correct book I've ever read (the author says in the introduction not to expect it to be), it is easily the most real.

The author breaks down each of the elements you will experience (from what you will experience on day one, specific training you will experience, and the importance of preparation before hand, etc.) and gives really helpful tips along the way on how to be successful at each.

One of the last chapters (Warrior Mindset) is easily worth the price of admission. That was the chapter I was most interested in from the start and the author did not disappoint.

I would recommend this book to anybody interested in going to the academy to become a Law Enforcement Officer. It really gives great insight on what to expect, and takes the nerves of the "unknown" away.

Great book, while it's a fairly short book the info is great. I think it's great that the book covers mindset, it's something that a lot of people dont think about going into the Academy.

Quite vague and generalized advice. It is good advice, but again - like many in this price range - is not going to give you much specific intelligence about academy. If you are a person who has thought much about academy at all, or sought out any of the academy videos or documentaries on Youtube, you'll have already surmised most of the contents of this book for yourself. I gave 3 stars for decency, but I wouldn't recommend your time. You need thick skin, persistence, genuine passion for the field, humbleness and desire to learn, and a requisite level of physical fitness prior to going. Be prepared to be stressed and challenged and handle yourself like an adult. That's all.
