Product Description

IN THE CRIME CAPITOL OF THE WORLD, THERE’S NEVER A COP AROUND WHEN YOU NEED ONE. BUT WHEN THIS COP’S AROUND, ONE IS ALL YOU NEED.

To infiltrate a drug cartel, police Inspector Chan Ka Kui (Jackie Chan, Rush Hour, Rumble in the Bronx) goes undercover in a Chinese prison. There, he earns the trust of Panther (Yuen Wah, Kung Fu Hustle), a cartel member, by breaking him out of prison. With the help of another undercover agent (Michelle Yeoh, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), they travel to Hong Kong and join up with Panther's gang. Ka Kui is accepted by the gang's leader (Ken Tsang), but his operation is jeopardized when Ka Kui's girlfriend (Maggie Cheung, Hero) accidentally reveals his true identity.

88 Films proudly presents ‘Police Story 3: Supercop’ making it’s North American debut in 4K Ultra HD!

88 Films’ 4K Ultra HD box set is Smithsonian-level quality!
Jackie Chan’s failed attempts to break into the U.S. market – which included The Big Brawl, Cannonball Run and The Protector – turned out to be a blessing for us all. He returned to Hong Kong with a chip on his shoulder, pushing the envelope with each new film: inventive action scenes, bigger stunts and increasingly dangerous feats of physical skill. And it all peaked with 1992’s Supercop, the third entry in Chan’s Police Story franchise, a full-throttle series of shoot-outs, sight gags and stunts that one-up each other for an 96 inspired minutes. Sent undercover to take-down a drug czar, supercop Kai-Kui (Chan) teams up with a hardnosed Chinese military official (Michelle Yeoh) to infiltrate the organization and stop the contraband at its source. But when their cover is finally blown, our duo must rely on their martial arts skills to save Kai-Kui’s fiancé and take down an army of bad guys on – and above – the streets of Hong Kong. While the other two Police Story films are certainly worth a watch, Jackie works on a much bigger scale here; think Die Hard meets Buster Keaton with a truly spectacular finale involving cars, trucks, helicopters and a moving freight train. But the film’s biggest asset is the chemistry between Chan and co-star Michelle Yeoh who match each other kick for kick and gag for gag. The best Jackie Chan films find a remarkable balance between punches and punchlines and Supercop is no exception. Every physical media collector secretly believes they’re doing God’s work preserving cinema history for the next generation…or at least family movie night. And 88 Films’ 4K Ultra HD box set is Smithsonian-level quality! Featuring both the Hong Kong and U.S. cuts in 4K and Blu-ray, it’s a retinal orgasm the entire running time. Extras run the gamut from interviews, commentary, outtakes and trailers to the 1984 TV commercial that Chan and Yeoh first met. And the packaging matches the presentation with gorgeous artwork, an 80-page booklet, and fold-out poster.

Seriously, can we get Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh in a middle-age, or older-aged, sequel? This movie has every kind of stunt and sense of humor you could want, all wrapped up in a fantastic package. One of my most-treasured films now in my collection!

Audio and Video are great for the Chinese version. Personally find it better than his other police films. Michelle Yeoh was fantastic in it also. She and Jackie Chan complement each other in the film during the fight scenes and with the comedy.

The actions looked better in the 4K disc and back up with so many good reviews. It is the best edition so far with two cuts of the movie. (Hong Kong and USA)
The Hong Kong cut is about 5 minutes longer with the original Cantonese Dialog .

I bought the Eureka 4k Police Story trilogy. What a terrible set so I had to check out the 88 films version of Supercop as it is one of the best jc movies ever. 88 will defiantly get my business again over Eureka anyday. Way better.

This blu ray is absolutely great. The audio and video is really up to par. There is no English dubbed version on this disc. There are two Chinese language audio options to choose from. There are English subtitles and this is the full length version of the film. Not the edited version put out by Dragon Dynasty. For music soundtrack lovers, the song sung during the end credits has the same rhythm, but the lyrics are different. It's still a good song and sounds fantastic. I'm very pleased with this purchase. Overall, a great martial arts film on blu ray.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a half-decent version for UK viewers!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 12, 2016
Ahh, Police Story 3. For me, the holy grail of Jackie Chan movies. Why? Well, two reasons. Firstly, it's great - up there with the best of JC's films. Secondly, it's so damn rare to get hold of a decent copy in the UK.

The film has Chan's Hong Kong cop teaming up with Michelle Yeoh's mainland Chinese officer. The main plot has them breaking a criminal out of prison in order to ingratiate themselves with a gangster they wish to bring down. All this, of course, is just a skeleton on which to base some of the most ludicrous stunts ever seen on film. The last twenty minutes have to be seen to believed, including Yeoh's incredible motorbike jump onto a moving train. All good fun.

For my money, this is top five Chan. Certainly the best of 80s/90s "action/comedy/adventure" output.

Now onto the DVD itself. Apart from one VHS release in the 90s and very, very rare screenings on Channel/Film 4 in the UK, this hasn't really had a proper release. There must be serious rights issues at play here. Why has one of JC's best films never seen a DVD or Bluray release in the UK? Every other Police Story movie is widely available, why not this?

Of course, there are foreign releases of this, but you're not always guaranteed they will be English-friendly. Even the US version seems to the hideously butchered "Supercop" version, dubbed only and with a Western hip-hop soundtrack. Then you have to get into multi-region DVD players etc. I used to have one, but in slimming down the amount of junk in my flat, I now play films on my PS4 - so for me I just want a decent region 2 or region 0 copy, with English subtitles, that will play on that and upscale nicely and look decent on my TV.

So I took a risk on this version. Boy, did it pay off. It's Australian, plays fine on the PS4 and is the full, uncut, original language version (with subtitles). Picture quality is perfectly fine, anamorphic and is in NTSC format, which is worth bearing in mind. Subtitles are fine, although with some spelling errors.

This is absolutely the best version currently available for the UK viewer who doesn't want to get involved in multi-region players etc. I was just pleased to fill a gigantic hole in my Jackie Chan collection.

Now let's hope sometime in the future a decent company get the rights and gives this the full bells-and-whistles Bluray this film deserves. I'll be happy to buy it again!

In the meantime, this is more than enough to be going on with.
