We had purchased a pair of Polk Audio RC60i speakers for our master bathroom and loved them so we knew that Polk Audio would be the brand we would choose if we were going to install speakers on our ceiling again. The area we chose to install speakers this time was too small for a pair of speakers so we chose the RC6S. The reviews on this model were very good and we see why. The RC6S was very easy to install and when we tested it we were amazed at how beautiful it sounded. Great highs, lows, and mids no matter how loud you play it. We are very pleased with yet another Polk Audio speaker. If you're looking for wonderful stereo sound and have limited space this speaker will not disappoint.

Bought two of these- one for the pantry one for the kitchen. When installing with an attic over the ceiling you need to build a box to prevent air infiltration and to give the speaker some bass. With these enclosures about 14x8x22 built between the ceiling joists they sound very good. Quality product, very well made and the installation system is great.

This single speaker is designed to run both channels of a stereo - you need only one speaker. I have it in the bathroom and it works well there. However, there is no channel separation with the side aimed tweeters, so don't expect to hear a soundstage. The frequency response is limited with no real high end or bass. The cover is old school and fits by compression, it is not magnetic.
This is perfect in my Lo-Fi application, but I would not use it for serious listening.
Do not use this for in-wall speakers in a home theater, such as rear channels. It is not designed for that.

I bought this to install in the basement we just finished. Mostly to play music during parties and also to hook into the tv if we have parties for the "big game" etc. so the sound can be broadcast though-out the entire basement. We pre-wired three speaker locations to cover the entire 1500 sq ft.

THE GOOD:

Very easy to install. Take the little card board template, draw your circle, drill a pilot hole, and cut it out. (I used a fine tooth saw-zaw blade by hand since we had already painted the ceiling and I didn't want it to chip/scuff the ceiling, but a jig saw would have probably done fine. Either way is ok, dry wall is easy to saw. On a ladder I used one hand to hold the speaker and the other to easily make the connections. The connecters are easy to work with one hand. I then just inserted into the ceiling, pulled the screw drive our of my pocket (don't forget to do this or you will be down the ladder with your speaker dangling from wire)... screwed in four screws that snap out and then down the little brackets that hold the speaker snug to the ceiling from inside the ceiling, and inserted the grill (which covers the speaker and the screws). Easy as can be.

Another point: circles are easier to install then rectangles. If you are considering buying rectangle speakers, consider how good you are and making things square, plumb, etc. And also consider that even if you are good at it, your drywall installers, even if they worked for a good builder, may not be. So you ceiling and/or wall may not be at right angles to each other. If you install in ceiling close to a wall, or in wall close to a ceiling, you may end up with a speaker that looks crooked one way or another.

The speakers sound very good, as most people seem to agree. But the rotating cam locks are not perfect. I installed two speakers, one in the dining area and the other in the kitchen. The kitchen speaker is underneath the second floor, but the other one is open to the attic. After it was installed, I ventured into the attic and found that one of the cam locks had caught the slack speaker wire underneath it. So make sure the wire is out of the way if you have a lot of slack in it. The second time I went in the attic, I found that one of the cams wasn't tight, and when I pushed it around it fell into position. I went back downstairs and tightened the screw. The other speaker isn't accessible from the back so I can't check that one, but it seems to be okay. The cam locks can also be a little confusing to tighten, because they seem to swing out counter-clockwise. It seems like you should turn the screw counter-clockwise, but they do tighten up by turning the screw clockwise. A sticker on the packaging (which seems like an afterthought) also tells you to tighten the screws by using a power drill on the "torque 2" setting. I do appreciate being given a finite number for tightening. However, I was dismayed that Polk doesn't offer guidance on what to do about installing the speaker in an open attic. I was more concerned about dust and insulation getting on the back of the speaker, as opposed to air leaks, etc., so I made an enclosure out of two Owens Corning pink project boards from Home Depot. You can use foam board adhesive and drywall screws to hold the box together. I made mine about 11 x 12 x 24 inches, but Polk recommends a minimum of .6 cubic feet. Their website has subwoofer box plans, and .6 is equal to 15 x 12 x 11 inches.
