Polk Audio Surroundbar IHT 3000
Polk Audio Surroundbar 3000 Instant Home Theater.

The system has a total power output of 180 watts (100 watts from the SurroundBar and 80 watts from the subwoofer), and the SurroundBar features both optical digital and analog audio inputs (an optical cable is included).

Key Features

  • Delivers bigger, fuller sound with no rear speakers. No rear speakers means no messy wiring and no clutter. Just a beautiful, sleek speaker that complements your flat panel TV and a compact subwoofer that sits tucked out of the way.
  • Lightweight easy-to-mount single speaker with multiple mounting options, on the wall or on a shelf. All the hardware you might need is included.
  • It connects easily to any TV in minutes. Two power cords, an included optical cable. You're done. Two power switches, two channel ID switches. You won't find an easier hookup or startup.
  • You can program your existing remote control to operate the SurroundBar 3000 IHT.
  • Polk Digital Logic. Polk's proprietary DSP firmware programming delivers much improved sound for your TV in a compact system with no complex hook up or set up.
  • Real bass, no wires. Place the compact wireless subwoofer anywhere. Plug in the power cord, set the ID switch, turn it on.
  • No wires snaking across your room. Just big, satisfying bass for real sound impact.

It connects to your TV in under 5 minutes.

The SurroundBar 3000 IHT works with your remote, the one you're already intimately familiar with. It also comes with all the wires you need for hook up--one. There is no complicated setup or anything else to buy. And you don't have to camouflage multiple speakers, because there are no rear speakers or rear speaker wires. Setup is just this easy:

  1. Connect the SurroundBar 3000 to your TV using the supplied optical cable.
  2. Connect the SurroundBar 3000 power supply to the SurroundBar 3000 and plug the other end into an AC outlet.
  3. Plug the subwoofer power cord into the back of the wireless subwoofer outlet and into an AC outlet.
  4. Make sure both the surroundbar and the subwoofer Channel ID switches are set to the same number.
  5. Turn on the power switches on both the SurroundBar 3000 and the wireless subwoofer.

Polk Digital Logic delivers the drama and the simplicity.

Polk Digital Logic (a combination of Polk's patented SDA technology and proprietary DSP programming) is how our engineers created the IHT's big sonic performance with no complicated setup or calibration. Like all Polk Audio SurroundBars, the Instant Home Theater's stunning surround sound effects are created independent of any room boundaries so it will work as well in your room as it does in our labs. And as with our other surround bars, Polk SDA technology helps maintain a solid center channel for clear, intelligible dialogue. Combined with Polk Digital Logic you can enjoy dramatic imaging, a three-dimensional sound envelope and, of course, Polk's signature sound--warm, with exceptional immediacy, fullness and clarity.

SDA Surround Sound

What is SDA Surround Sound Technology?

SDA stands for Stereo Dimensional Array, a patented Polk Audio exclusive. When a multi-channel recording is made, sound supposed to be heard at your left ear comes only out of the left speaker. However over a sound system, you hear sound from the left speaker not only in your left ear but also your right ear as well. The dedicated SDA driver produces a SDA signal to control the amount and type of sound the further ear hears. By carefully controlling the SDA signal, SDA Surround Technology allows the sound image to be precisely steered and projected into the room. You'll experience sound effects and instruments coming from all around you, with no physical speakers beside or behind.

Originally I bought a Boston Acoustics Soundbar (see explanation below for returning it) but now I have the Polk Soundbar and love it. I found one major problem with setup. I am a wi fi household and the wireless subwoofer had a conflict with my network wi fi. I am not terribly knowledgeable about routers but after going to Cnet forums got the answer which I would like to share with you. My problem was I have a Roku box and I was unable to stream. It would begin and then stop. If I turned off the soundbar it worked perfectly. I put the sub woofer in various places based on Polk's instructions, trying to shield it from the wi fi signal but nothing worked. The answer turned out to be very simple. (I had even gone so far as to buy a new router which also didn't work for reasons which will become obvious if you continue reading.) All I had to do was bring up my router's configuration screen and change the channel setting. The Soundbar was set for channel one as was my wi fi. I first tried channel five and it almost worked but after a few minutes, it stalled again so I then changed to channel 11 the farthest and last choice and bingo, it worked great and continues to work great.

I live in a 1400 sq ft house and the living room is about 12' x 20'. This unit is actually a little too much for the size of the room but when I made the necessary changes in my tv sound setup and the Dish remote setup, it made a big difference. Sometimes the sound was shrill so I changed the treble and bass settings on my tv and they do work for the soundbar even when you are not using the tv sound which I found I don't really need. For music this soundbar is astounding. For speech it is excellent. I do have a hearing problem and since Netflix has no subtitles yet, I do need some help.

I was interested an alternate to the built in tv speakers for my bedroom. I wanted the enhanced sound; however, I did not want to have to run wires for the speakers/subwoofer, like I did in my living room. I didn't need a full 5 or 7.1 setup for the room, so I thought the Polk IHT 3000 surroundbar, and its wireless subwoofer, would be a great option. I went to my local big box store to play with the options, and to test the sound quality before I purchased. The sound is very crisp and the subwoofer does its job very well. Initially I was very satisfied after I received the item. The setup was very simple, and it sounded just as good in my home as I had tested on the demo unit; watching a dvd was perfect. However, the majority of media consumption in my bedroom is internet based: music streaming from my home server to my htpc, hulu, netflix streaming on my roku. I have an N/2.4 ghz wireless router and when using the Polk IHT 3000, my wifi connection was useless. All wifi traffic would come to a complete stop. The only way to solve the problem was to unplug the surroundbar. Once it was unplugged, all the wifi traffic would resume as normal. I read through some of the other customer's comment and found that other users suggested changing the channels on both the router and the subwoofer, so that they do not overlap, as a solution. I tried every possible channel configuration on both the router and subwoofer, and repositioning the wifi router and subwoofer. Nothing made any difference. As soon as the surroundbar was turned on, no data could be transmitted on my wireless network. As soon as it was turned off, all traffic would resume again.Read more ›

I initially purchased the Vizio VHT510 from Costco (amazing price: $290). The Vizio is probably much better sounding than the Polk, mainly because it's not just a bar; it's 5.1 surround sound, with not only a wireless subwoofer, but two rear (not wireless) speakers as well. But it's Achilles' heal is the length (39.75") of the bar. The back wall of my 17' x 13' family room consists of a 6.5' wide floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace, on either side of which are bookshelves with large bottom cabinets. My 46" Samsung TV sits on top of the left cabinet. I have not seen a sound bar that would fit between the stand and the TV, so needed one that would fit on one of the shelves above the TV. Problem is, my shelves are only 38" wide, so the Vizio would not fit there, either. I toyed with the idea of mounting the bar high on the fireplace, but that would have been a lot of work; I'd have to use conduit to cover the wires from there to the TV and power source; mounted there, it would probably be outside my Comcast remote's beam (I wanted to program everything to turn on/off, control the sound, mute, etc. from that remote); and "madam" would have a hissy-fit over the aesthetics. So the Vizio got returned and I bought the Polk 3000 from HHGregg - for about the same price ($280). The Polk bar is only 31", so fits easily on the shelf.

Setting up and programming the Polk 3000 was easy. Not only did I have no worry about where to mount it, run wires thru conduit, etc., the bar makes it easy to program to work with the remote you use for your TV/DVR. It has a "Learn" button that allows you to do that relatively quickly. However, Polk's instructions are not very explicit, so I had to figure it out myself.
