First of all, the setup is less than trivial. I had to repeat the setup several times until I had a setting that was somewhat tolerable without the speakers distorting heavily.
The main show stopper, however, is the fact that there is a constant popping in the speakers. I was told by Polk customer support to try to switch off all other wireless gadgets. But hey, how can I be expected not to use my internet or stream audio from my cell phone anymore. This really sucks. Even with all wireless devices switched off the speaker would still not work reliably. Especially when I was walking in front of the transmitter the speaker would make a clicking noise every so often.
Another problem is that the transmitter would go into standby whenever there is a moment of silence in the movie which results in a screeching noise in the speakers. Then when the transmitter wakes up again there will be a loud plop. Hey, if you have fallen asleep then this may actually be a nice feature. Maybe I should contact the Polk Audio marketing people.
I would actually be willing to spend $250 on this speaker if I could get it to work. So I ended up returning this speaker and got me an Amphony 1600 wireless speaker kit and also purchased a pair of Klipsch speakers. With the Amphony, I get 80 Watts per speaker which is close to the Polk Audio rated wattage. It works at 5.8 GHz rather than 2.4 GHz and thus far I have not had any issues with interference.
Unfortunately, setup only lasts until you actually watch something. From then on, you have to live with the results and I was only able to tolerate a month before I brought my side speakers back and added two small rear speakers for 7.1. The lack of audio fidelity is extremely frustrating.
Movies and TV: Either crank up the volume or be prepared for this speaker to go into standby on a regular basis. When that happens you hear a faint chirping sound, which is mildly annoying but tolerable. What's bad is that when the speaker then gets told to produce sound again it will often produce a loud popping sound that not only brings you jarringly out of what you're watching but can literally make you (and any pets in the room) jump. The speaker will also sometimes lapse into producing static for which there is usually no solution other than turning it off, unplugging the transmitter, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging them back in and resynchronizing them. Not exactly conducive to enjoying a movie! For the record, I did try moving the transmitter around and ensured that there was nothing between it and the speaker other than the couch. No dice.Read more ›
I received the 3rd transmitter from Polk Audio this week. Finally, everything works perfectly.
This is a really great wireless speaker - just be sure you get the latest version.
I will also give great kudos to Polk Audio's Technical Support team. I spoke with them several times in getting this resolved and they were super.
Finally, after trying 2 different speakers and 3 different transmitters, it works great.

Ok - so the first unit I purchased received 1 star (would have given 0) for reasons you can read below.
Then, the 2nd unit I purchased, the "New & Improved" model was so much better, I gave it 5 stars. That is, until I found out that overnight, the unit would lose the sync between transmitter and speaker, and the only way to get it back was to unplug the transmitter, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
So, now I am downgrading it again to 3 stars. When it's working, it is great! But, it's a pain to have to unplug/replug it every time I want to use it.
I spoke with Polk Audio Technical Support (800-377-7655) and they are sending me yet another transmitter (3rd one). We'll see if this solves the problem.
If it does, I'll be back to update my review.

Well I was glad to see that when I received my 2nd speaker after returning the 1st one (see my previous review, below), there was a nice red label on the box that said "New & Improved - Series II". So, at least there was the hope that there actually WAS a version where the problems had been fixed.Read more ›

Works well with my system. You have to adjust your volumes to use it well. Also, certain surround sources, such as blue ray vs. traditional dvd, mix the rear channel differently. Read morePublished 9 months ago by W. W.

Frankly, I am a Polk fan, but this unit just doesn't get it done. Wireless interference and no way to change it's 802.11 channel to something that doesn't conflict. Read morePublished 16 months ago by Scott Decker
