NB. Ravulous is not affiliated with Ravelry. It is written by an independent developer who likes knitting. It is never going to be anything like as good as ravelry.com, but it complements it by offering some useful on-the-go features optimised for mobile devices.
Ok, so I am addicted to Ravelry and actually wanted my Kindle Fire HD so I could browse Ravelry. When I found about this app, that really made me want one. I received a Kindle Fire HD for my birthday and this was the first app I purchased. Didn't realize I had "Amazon coins" and I could have got it with the credits, but oh well, I have no regrets. This app makes it so EASY to add to my yarn stash. Actually it's easier than using the Ravelry website, to me anyway. I just added a bunch of stashed yarn in a short amount of time this morning. I recommend downloading the free app - Ravely Photo Uploader which works with this app to add pictures to projects or stash you have listed. I like that you don't have to be connected to Wi-fi to view projects and yarn stash in your Ravelry profile. There is a "Ravulous" forum group on Ravelry that the creator of this app moderates and I am learning the different features of this app. There are sometimes updates/improvements she announces. This is the list of app features on the Ravulous forum (in case you didn't read the list on the product description, which is slightly different anyway as of this date):
"Let you upload photos from your phone/tablet camera to your projects and stash Notify you when you get new Ravelry messages or unread forum replies Show your list of projects Let you view your project photos and notes Let you edit some of the details Let you view your queued projects, with yardages, recommended yarns etc. Let you view your stash Show your list of friends and their projects Allow searching for patterns by name, showing photos and yardages required Allow searching for yarns by name Offer an experience tailored specifically to smaller devices and touchscreens - no pinch/zoom required Cache some frequently accessed data to reduce network usage and conserve battery life, and let you look at stuff offline"
I have not used all the features yet but I've only had it for about 3 weeks. Anyway at 1.60, I think it's a great deal and totally worth it.
I hope the developer reads the reviews. This is a good, solid app that allows me to see my products AND search for patterns on Ravelry. I would love to see more access to patterns and "tweakable" searches. Patterns that are available on external sites have a link but I noticed that patterns available as a Ravelry download are not accessible. It's not a huge problem because I can always go to Ravelry's web site to get it. At any rate, I'm glad I purchased the app and hope it continues to be developed.
I love this app. Since I use my phone to take pics of my projects, this plus the photo uploader is the easiest way of getting them on my project page. You need to create your project first on your tablet, kindle, or pc, then add your photos or update your project on your phone via this app.
The designer is so great at your feedback or questions, she helps you and listen on the forum at Ravelry for each of her programs. She's also a knitter so she relates to your needs.
Anyway, just get the app, you'll be glad you did. More features than I can name that is great about the app.
This is a great starting point, it can only get fabulous from here! would love to edit yarn on projects and have the ability to download patterns or at least link to them. can't wait to see what's next!
I normally don't pay for apps unless it looks like something I would definitely use and enjoy a lot. I was pretty excited to get this app after reading reviews, however, it doesn't do any more than the mobile ravelry site does, although the layout is very striking. I cannot search patterns by description (e.g. socks, shawls, etc) without putting in a specific name. Had I known its limitations I would not have purchased it. I also like to see other peoples projects when looking at a pattern, this too, unavailable. This app has very good potential, and I do look forward to seeing its development with time.
