I first had this mustard in Paris and loved it. It is great to be able to purchase it now in the states. This is a good size crock, well worth the price, I have carried many home from Paris! I can't find any other mustard in the states that has the same quality of taste.
Pommery mustard makes a wonderful marinade for chicken with some olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, rosemary, a few red pepper flakes, fry it in olive oil... its amazing. Leftovers (if any) freeze good too.
Also makes a vegetable dip that everyone wants the recipe for - mayo, sour cream, minced onion, minced garlic, pommery mustard: its so good you don't need the veggies!
I am not a fan of plain mustard so don't know if you can use this product alone as a condiment.
Bon appetit

What can one say, this is the premiere moutarde. We've been using it since we brought one back from France in the 70's. It also is magnificent for any recipe that calls for mustard (forgive my French) like Caesar's Salad. And, you get to keep the pot. I personally like to put in fond memories I had of French politicians. Needless to say, the pot is still empty, but the next election may bring us something to put in there!

I originally bought this because of the cool crock it came in. But the whole seed, complex, delectableness inside made me an official mustard snob. :-) . This mustard is so good, I serve it by itself on crackers for hors d'oeuvres. Honestly, you can eat this stuff straight. It makes a nice gift too.

When you say "mustard" this is the stuff you should mean-- fragrant, acidic, sublime. Unfortunately, the price reflects not only the wretched value of the dollar against the Euro, but a 100% tax imposed by the US government! Imposed during the Clinton years, the 100% tariff on French Mustard still remains on the books-- and it's more than high time it came off! Write your Senators and Reps-- I just picked up two jars in Paris at an overpriced shop there-- at under 10 Euros each!
If you can't wait, though, for the wheels of government to grind this mustard fine, exceedingly fine, then pony up the extra dosh and get some. Me, I'll be bringing a bigger suitcase next time, and considerably more than two jars home with me!

Used to be able to buy this mustard in almost any cheese shop at a price thought high at the time ($9.00) - but no more...it just seemed to have disappeared. My family used it exclusively and we all had uses for the crock, too. So I began a search for my mustard and finally found it on Amazon. It made my day!

I love the mustard itself - so different from the usual; this is only seeds, water, spices, etc. For the last few years have been buying it on Amazon. Use it on everything - sandwiches, lamb chops, deviled eggs and still love the crock it comes in. If you Google "Pommery Mustard" you can get recipes and rave reviews from restaurants who have incorporated into their menus.

It's a bit pricey because of shipping, but worth every penny and it lasts a very long time. Have told friends about it, and once people use it they never want to go back to the yellow/brown/ supermarket type.

Thanks Amazon, you came through again!

This is the most perfect mustard that I have ever encountered, and it is my favorite forever. I just need to quit ordering it from Amazon. The first time I tried to get it from them, I got the wrong flavor. This time, I got the right flavor but the crock was cracked in half right around the lid and mustard had seeped out around the tape. I'm grateful that Amazon made it right by me both times, but I've learned my lesson. I'm heartbroken--I don't know anywhere else to get this stuff from.

If you've never tried this mustard and you're so-so on the idea of mustard, TRY THIS. If you've got some sort of favorite that isn't this kind and you like mustard, TRY THIS. Not too strong, not too hot, with a sharp distinct flavor that enhances anything that seems like it'd benefit from mustard being applied to it, and a texture that is very pleasing on sandwiches and in salads, this is the best one around. I know it's expensive, but trust me. You'll never be able to go back to ballpark yellow mustard again.

I LOVE this mustard. I’ve been using it for years and years. . . .BUT. . . I totally disagree with the listing of this item on Amazon for two reasons.

#1. It’s listed under Dijon Mustard. This is NOT Dijon Mustard.
#2. It’s listed as “smooth”. It is NOT smooth. This is WHOLE GRAIN mustard.

This is NOTHING like “yellow mustard”. It’s “bold”. Great for sandwiches. . . salad dressing. . . and more. If you’re using it on a sandwich you will want a “heavy” bread like rye, pumpernickel, etc. You will NOT want to use white bread.

This is the “plain” Pommery mustard. It also comes in “Firemen’s” (spicy). . . .Green Peppercorn. . . “Royal” with cognac (my favorite, actually, but a bit pricy) . . . . Honey Mustard. If you’re looking for a “smooth” mustard, then try Pommery Moutarde du Lion. This mustard is what you think of when you hear the words “Dijon Mustard”.

This is the real stuff - French country-style whole-grain mustard. It's not loaded with horseradish like, for example, Dijon. This is a mild mustard with a thick chewable texture and a delicious mustardy flavor. I like to spread a thick layer in sandwiches. When this type of mustard is not available, I would instead use a very thin layer of Dijon due to its higher spiciness. These crocks used to be sealed with wax and were tedious to get into. However, this one just uses a press-in kind of a cork molded from plastic. To save your fingernails, you pry up the edges with a dinner knife to pull out the cork. It's a good thing this crock is so large, because you'll want to use a lot of this great spread.
