Also, for some reason there is a 1/8" groove on the inner edge of the flat bottom guide of the clamp. The problem is if you have 1/8" thick plywood then depending on the exact thickness the wood may get stuck halfway into the groove at some angle and the stuck edge will not be properly aligned parallel to the guide. Thinner than 1/8" and the board can slide flush into the groove. Thicker than 1/8" and the board doesn't fall into the groove. I just happened to be working on a project using 1/8" plywood, the sweet spot of sub-optimality.
On the plus side, once you get your wood pieces to slide in straight you can get a decent 90º joint.
I tried clamping with 1 or 2 DeWalt or Irwing clamps on opposing sides, but with picture frames, this is not a balanced glue job. The frame will set out of alignment if you do not use 4 clamps at the same time. This set was priced very reasonably, and worked well at doing its job. I have recommended this to my son who does hobby woodwork, and to my neighbor for DIY projects around the house.
The sellers are a small family business, and work hard on good fulfillment, so happy to give them my business and support small family business instead of huge corporations. Heartily recommend!
These have a more polished look and feel than most of the low cost competitors. For example, the ends the screw toggle are rounded off instead of hammered flat to lock them in place. They do still have a small rivet that takes all of the clamping force of the screw which is likely the weak point in the design. I haven't had any problems with it, but I am conscious of putting too much force on it with the screw.
The action of the screw leave a little to be desired. It takes a lot of turns to re-position the bracket. Since it isn't built for strength, they could have used a coarser thread that allows the bracket to move further with less turns. That will give you less torque capability, but given that these are for lightweight jobs, that is probably a good thing.
Better fit and finish than competitor clamps
Good price at the time I got it, anyway
Good for small, lightweight projects
Slow to adjust
They do their job very well, and are good quality, with smooth tightening. As is, they're very good for the price. I'd love deeper clamps, that would make them even better. Definitely a must have in my shop, and likely getting more soon.
