LinkedIn Reviews:

This sounds like such a great introduction to some very resistant K students who have been using the wrong pencil grasp for some time.  Thanks for sharing!  I will be trying this tomorrow.
And:
Christine, the kids loved your book.  I did see the video.  It was helpful.  Now before writing I remind them of the poor little pencil, and instead of griping they laugh and correct themselves.  Thanks!

Great book, Christine! Thank you for sharing it. Your writing has a fun rhythm and your illustrations are engaging. i can see your book being the perfect read aloud as you begin the writing process with your students. Thanks again for sharing! Happy writing!

What a great idea! I will add this book to my class list. I also recommend parents and teachers use large triangular pencils and crayons which can also make it easier.

From the Author

My preschoolers request this book often. I printed it out and use it weekly, revisiting this topic and practicing with the children. I even drew little happy faces on each pencil with a marker. The children really love it! Learning how to use this book is simple and easy - follow the steps below or watch the short video included on my author page.

     Step 1: Read the book.
Step 2: Place a pencil down on the floor in front of the child.
Step 3: Model and practice together, picking up the pencil and holding it.
Step 4: Repeat as needed. Remember to say, "Let us hold you, 1,2,3" to remind and
                 trigger the right pencil grip.

The children request this book in class: "Read Poor Little Pencil!" They like to recite the verses and they love Little Pencil and his happy face at the end of the book.
