I just started reading it yesterday after it arrived on my Kindle Paper White. I first read the excerpts in the Weekend Wall Street Journal and thus decided to go shopping for it. It is immensely readable. You get pulled into the narrative right away , As a non-catholic but christian I am impressed by this man and what he can do for the whole world as a spokesman for chrisitianity as a whole. However, I have noticed a few a flaws. Apparently the editiors have not done their proof reading as I have come across several spelling errors in the book. They may have rushed this out..not sure how producing e-books is different than print publishing. Also the formatting on some pages or paragraphs do not ident well on the Kindle page as I would have expected to see on the paper version of the book when reading it. But still an excellent read so far.

As a decades-long reader, I found this book far below Wall Street Journal standards.
The book needs a thorough scrubbing by a well-informed and experienced copy editor. I one Instance, then-Cardinal Bergolio is referred yo as Mr. Bergolio. In another, he is simply Bergolio. Journal style calls for the proper honorific. Depending on the time frame, the honorific should be Father, Bishop, or Cardinal.
Reference is made to confirmation as the step of being received into the Catholic Church. A person is received into the Church at Baptism. Confirmation reaffirms commitment to the Church's teachings.
There are many other editing shortcomings.
Entirely too much space is devoted to the clergy sex-abuse scandal. Disgusting and gratuitous examples are not necessary to illustrate the steps that Archbishop Bergolio and the Church in general took in dealing with the issue.
Harper-Collins should have been more concerned with publishing the book properly and in balance than with being fast to market.

This is a slapdash book....full of cliches, confused chronology, repetitive, badly or, better said, not edited. Any Wall St. Journal editor who looked at this -- and it is really hard to believe that any ever did -- should be ashamed to have the name of a reputable newspaper associated with this excuse for a book. This is some marketing person's effort to capitalize on the arrival of a new pope by selling a wastebasket full of tidbits assembled in a hurry in no particular order to people who would like some quick, but decent biography of the new pope. If that's what you want, look elsewhere. Even at less that $5, this is way overpriced and way under done.

This is a very insightful and provocative book in its attempt to define who and how the new Pope Francis will impact the papacy. Tracing a person's roots, family, education, training, experience, accomplishments and struggles provides the keys to predict how he may act in the future. The story of Bergoglio's journey from Argentina to Rome is fascinating, provocative and enticing in its quest to give insights into this complex Jesuit who did not seek the papacy. And that is the enigma for the Church as he tackles the Vatican beauracracy.

The WSJ coverage of the process from the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI to the election of Pope Francis was very good. When I saw that they had written an e-book covering that period, I was pleased. I was not disappointed. In addition to insights of the process, the authors provided good background information on the new pope. It is a well written book. I suspect that with time more complete books will appear.

This is a respectful look at the new Holy Father. This book will interest persons of all faiths because Pope Francis is a world leader, not just the leader of the Roman Catholic community. His story is most inspirational and I was particularly interested in exploring how a religious servant in a remote part of the world, found himself Pope. Readers with an interest in Latin American studies will want to read this book.

I enjoyed this book, and found it met my expectations very well. I expected a "news organization's" view of him, and a general picture of the man assembled in a hurry. I suppose it could be called a "biographical sketch" or some such. The book seems unbiased, accurate, and is a quick read.I'm not Catholic, but have high hopes for this Pope, and keep hearing about great moves on his part already.

As a new face of the Catholic Church emerges on the world, many are curious about the man, his personality, philosophy and his style of leading the over one billion Roman Catholics throughout the globe. This very objective and balanced look at Pope Francis will give the reader meaningful insights into who he is and will be to the world...not who the media would like him to be. Well researched and well written.
