I am new to Laura’s work and I can honestly say this won’t be the last book I’ll be reading. From the very first page I was laughing. I like to read in bed of a night but unfortunately this was extremely difficult with a sleeping husband and having to suppress my giggles. While reading earlier in the evening, my family thought I had gone crazy staring at my Kindle and constantly chuckling to myself. I’d really like to meet Laura and have a glass of wine and a chat with her. What a very funny lady. I’m intrigued to see if the characters are based on anybody she knows or just created through her comedic mind.
The story follows Poppy and her best friend, Jazz, who inherited a large amount of money and is already spoilt rotten. I could have easily strangled Jazz at times although she redeemed herself tenfold in my eyes simply because I adored her character. Poppy is married to the delicious Ryan but it seems the pressure is on with everyone around them for reasons to be revealed in the story. Jazz is cohabiting with Poppy’s brother, Ollie. So far so good! Bestie, sister and sister-in-law, Poppy is Ms. Clumsy in all aspects and manages to get herself in some very peculiar situations. A clue dog poop…ooh my goodness me, did I laugh out loud. Especially further on when some of her funny moments come back and haunt her. At times, serious events took place in Poppy’s crazy family’s lives, but they always seemed to turn what should have been sad moments into hilarity.
The supporting characters are especially hilarious. Poppy’s mum and dad. God forbid if we ever had parents like them! Meryl’s brain to mouth filter is seriously lacking. And her dad has what should be a midlife crisis; however, he’s sixty years old! Just thinking about his antics has me in tears of laughter as I am writing this review.
“Mum. Why the hell is there a turkey in the bath?”
“Oh you found him then,” “Well darling,” “I forgot to defrost the thing. So it’s been in a hot bath since this morning. I’m sure it’ll turn out fine.”
The Christmas dinner scenario had to be mentioned. You’ll have to read this book to find out if the turkey made it to the dinner table. There is also Poppy’s friend, Izzy, who is dating her boss, Michael Sworsky. Get ready for a fair share of humorous adventures from these two, too. Yeh, this read is all wrapped up in a bundle of fun!
I can’t recommend this book enough. It is a priceless read that has so many trials and tribulations that one can’t help but lap up. Angst you’ll have with a difference. Poppy! I loved her to bits. I have given this read four stars as I felt it dragged on a little too much with a couple of issues that arose. I also didn’t get to find out if Poppy’s mum ever found out about why her dad was acting out of character. But all being said, very enjoyable indeed.
Well where do I start? This is a really well written story, it is a light hearted funny read which I did enjoy. However, if I'm totally honest I did find it a bit confusing, now this may not be the authors fault it may well be because this is the third instalment in the series and although it can be read has a stand alone, I think it would have been better to have read the others first. I found it a bit too busy, it was hard to work out the little stories of friends and who was who’s partner.
Poppy is the main character and very funny but very prone to misfortune, she has so many ups and downs in this book you don't know whether to laugh or cry and her lovely husband Ryan stands by her whatever.
Jazz her best friend is now the spoilt little rich girl who's inheritance brings her joy in giving but also brings heartache in her relationship with Ollie, Poppy's brother), n saying that most of the time it did have me laughing and I could definitely relate to the banter of the girlie friendships.
I loved the humour, although there were times I felt it was a little far-fetched, but then this did add to the humour.I would say you must read this to make up your own mind? I will be reading the other books in the series to catch up with the other characters and their lives.
The story revolves around two best friends, Poppy and Jazz, who find themselves in silly “I Love Lucy” type of situations. Poppy is an anxious, empathetic woman, and typically has too many people rely on her, while she deals with her own struggle of trying to become pregnant. Poppy is imperfect and vulnerable – like a real life women.
Jazz is a care-free, generous, headstrong woman. Unfortunately, due to her strong will, she often finds herself in difficult situations. Many of us can relate to the family members mentioned in her story. Every family has these type of relatives: the embarrassing one, the bossy one, the Too Much Information one and the “know it all” relative.
This is a light, funny book which I highly recommend for chick-lit lovers or anyone in need of a good laugh.

OMG! This amazing book by Laura Barnard had me crying with laughter.
The wittiness from the characters is pure genus and works
very well with the story. I absolutely loved the entire story and fell in love
with the characters from the start.
This book is told in alternate POV's from Poppy and her best friend Jazz.
Both girls have their own issues to deal with, Poppy's biological is ticking
and making a baby just isn't happening for her and her husband Ryan.
Jazz has just received her long awaited inheritance and wants to move
away and live the highlife she think she wants.
Along with crazy family members and even crazier friends, the story
just went from strength to strength and I couldn't put it down.
I've read a couple of Laura Barnards's books and I love her work. She is
one author I would recommend to anyone who needs a fabulous "chic
lit" to read.
