Product Description

The Porta-Jump Emergency Car Jump Starter is the indispensable emergency tool for your car. It's small enough to fit in your car glove box or center console, But Porta-Jump is so powerful that, when you need, it can charge any 12-Volt battery in a matter of minutes so you can jump start your car or pick- up truck in the event of an emergency. You can use the same Porta-Jump over and over. It's always ready to help you in an emergency. The Porta-Jump charges your battery right through your car's cigarette lighter socket, so you never have to leave your vehicle. That means extra safety and security, especially at night if you or a loved one is on a dark road. No cables required. Forget about trying to figure which end of the cable to connect to which battery terminal. You don't need another car in order to jump start yours. Most other "battery boosters" are disposable and you have to throw them away after just one use. But you can use the Porta-Jump over and over again. It actually recharges itself! So it's ready whenever you need to jump start your car in a an emergency because of a dead battery.

Has more than paid for itself by saving roadside service calls plus the time and inconvenience it has saved... a great back up for when lights are accidentally left on and drains the battery too low to start the vehicle. Requires a functional lighter to work.
BTW, not meant to use for a bad battery that will not take a charge; only for situations where your battery still takes a charge but is run down ie by a light left on or a loose/corroded battery terminal, etc.

I bought one of these in a store about 3 years ago (I've forgotten which automotive store it's been so long). I had a number of instances back there where I needed a jump, and I loved those little kits the triple AAA guys carry to jump cars, much easier than involving another car. So when I saw this in the store I had to buy it. I admit the entire time I've had it I was skeptical it would work. But fortunately I've not had occasion to use it, until today. I remembered that I had this in the back, and despite the package saying a 5 year lifetime, I was not at all confident that it would work after this long. But I opened it up, followed the little instruction list on the back of the battery, and sure enough 10 minutes later my car started right up. The thing paid for itself because triple AAA wanted to charge 35 dollars to come down and jump us. Totally glad I bought this thing.

And like other reviewers have said, this won't help if you have a piece of crap battery in your car. Even normal jumping won't get you far with a lousy battery that needs replacing.

Another thing: Make sure you have some strong scissors in the car to open it, or take it out before storing in the car. I was lucky I was at a library at the time, and could borrow a pair. They make the plastic packaging on these things very strong.

Bought one from local Target store a few months back and leave it in car just in case one day I might need it. Yesterday, my neighbor came and asked me for help to jump start his car (Mercedes-Benz ML320, SUV). Car won't start because he left the lights on and drained out most of the battery power. Battery still has enough power to unlock doors and roll down windows.

Tested the battery with PortaJump and got a green light, meaning the battery is ready to accept new charge. Connected the PortaJump power pack and left it for 10-minutes.... car still will not start. I did notice the battery has more power after charging it with PortaJump, but it did get not enough cranking amp to start the car.

Eventually, I have to help my neighbor jump start his SUV the old fashion way.

PortaJump is very portable and rechargeable, but it may not work for cars/trucks that needs a lot of cranking amps.

My mother's pickup battery died (not a trace of "juice", not even a click when I tried to start it) on my elderly mother and me one night, just when we stopped to check her mail on our way home from dinner out. It was already dark. I must have left some parking light on or something I was unaware of the previous night. We had gotten caught on the road that day in a blinding rain storm and I had attempted to turn on the headlights, but I guess I goofed, and left something on afterwards. I had fiddled with the lights that evening, too, so that's my best guess as to why it went dead, in addition to the fact that it might not get driven much lately.

Anyway, I had one of those Porta-Jump portable car starters in the back seat floorboard of the pickup. It has a small card with clear step-by-step instructions inside the cloth pouch that holds the starter and the charging cord, so that you can jump start the car from inside the car (key words being "INSIDE THE CAR"), using the cigarette lighter receptacle in the car. So I followed those instructions, and I'm here to tell you it worked perfectly! It took about 15 minutes, as the instructions stated, and we were back running again. I also recharged the Porta-Jump while I let the truck battery recharge after we got back to the house, using the recharging instructions on that same card, so it will be ready to use again the next time it's needed. It's just good to know that it works, and that it's easy, quick and available, without even having to get out of the car. VERY handy. It's also safer than regular jumper cables, especially for women out somewhere on their own. You can't hurt yourself by connecting something incorrectly. And you can remain safely inside your car while jump starting it, without needing help from a stranger, or waiting for someone to come to your rescue, and without ever getting out of the car or opening the hood. I highly recommend it. Every car should have one.

bought this online and used it about a year later when a friends car died. Worked exactly as described. I think the problem with the bad reviews is it won't(and does not claim to) start a really dead and poor old battery, nor will it start a vehicle that needs alot of amps to crank it. Same with all the small portable units.

I was skeptical at first, but I bought it anyway because I liked the idea, and thought it might be worth it. I left my lights on one day while I was disc golfing, and of course my battery died. I plugged it in, and my car started 10 minutes later. Make sure you read the directions. The car has to be in accessory mode for the Portajump to charge your battery.
