BTW, not meant to use for a bad battery that will not take a charge; only for situations where your battery still takes a charge but is run down ie by a light left on or a loose/corroded battery terminal, etc.
And like other reviewers have said, this won't help if you have a piece of crap battery in your car. Even normal jumping won't get you far with a lousy battery that needs replacing.
Another thing: Make sure you have some strong scissors in the car to open it, or take it out before storing in the car. I was lucky I was at a library at the time, and could borrow a pair. They make the plastic packaging on these things very strong.
Tested the battery with PortaJump and got a green light, meaning the battery is ready to accept new charge. Connected the PortaJump power pack and left it for 10-minutes.... car still will not start. I did notice the battery has more power after charging it with PortaJump, but it did get not enough cranking amp to start the car.
Eventually, I have to help my neighbor jump start his SUV the old fashion way.
PortaJump is very portable and rechargeable, but it may not work for cars/trucks that needs a lot of cranking amps.
Anyway, I had one of those Porta-Jump portable car starters in the back seat floorboard of the pickup. It has a small card with clear step-by-step instructions inside the cloth pouch that holds the starter and the charging cord, so that you can jump start the car from inside the car (key words being "INSIDE THE CAR"), using the cigarette lighter receptacle in the car. So I followed those instructions, and I'm here to tell you it worked perfectly! It took about 15 minutes, as the instructions stated, and we were back running again. I also recharged the Porta-Jump while I let the truck battery recharge after we got back to the house, using the recharging instructions on that same card, so it will be ready to use again the next time it's needed. It's just good to know that it works, and that it's easy, quick and available, without even having to get out of the car. VERY handy. It's also safer than regular jumper cables, especially for women out somewhere on their own. You can't hurt yourself by connecting something incorrectly. And you can remain safely inside your car while jump starting it, without needing help from a stranger, or waiting for someone to come to your rescue, and without ever getting out of the car or opening the hood. I highly recommend it. Every car should have one.
