Following the success of our Data Block USB cables launched in 2009, 1st Gen Data Blocker USB Adaptor released in 2013 and 2nd Gen ‘SmartCharge’ Data Blocker released in 2015, we've now launched our 3rd Gen range of models. Many alternatives claim to be 3rd or even 4th gen when they're similar to our 1st or 2nd gen and lacking the feature which truly sets our blocker apart - the fact you can see for yourself that it is physically blocking data.

The only data blocker you can see working

PortaPow has the only data blocker where the two wires which carry data have been physically removed, so you can be 100% sure it is working. You can see this for yourself just by looking at the USB connector.


SmartCharge A basic data blocker will send a fixed charging signal, which may result in slower charging. The PortaPow Data Blocker includes our SmartCharge chip which detects and sends the correct signal for your device, compatible with Apple, Universal or Samsung standards. This will prevent slowdown and fix charging issues in some cases - read the reviews for testimonials.	Visible Security The two data wires have been physically removed from the USB-A connector. You can easily see this through the unique security window cut into the metal, no other data blocker has this. Compact Size Measuring just 43x18x11mm (1.7x0.7x0.4"), its a similar size to a cable's USB connector so won't block neighboring sockets. Uses 25% less plastic than previous models for a lower environmental impact.	Zero-waste packaging The bag the adaptor arrives in can be reused as a no-frills resealable case for the blocker and/or other small parts. Which Data Blocker Do I Need?

This depends on the shape of the cable you use to charge your device, and the shape of the socket you want to charge from. Check the end of your cable that plugs into a charger (not the end which plugs into your device!) and match it to the image on the left, Most public chargers use a USB-A shape socket, so if your cable is also USB-A then you just need our USB-A to A data blocker. This is the most common scenario.

But if your cable is USB-C, then you need to also convert the shape to charge from public sockets. Our USB-A to C blocker does that. See below for our full range.

Worked for my powerbank, but not for my suv

I tried to use this initially to block data in my suv so I could charge my phone quicker. It didn't work right and my phone would ding over and over saying it was charging then not, charging, then not. It didn't work out, but I think it was the suv's fault. That vehicle does all kinds of weird stuff when I try to hook up my phone via usb. So that was a fail. However, I used one of these data blockers on my powerbank portable phone charger, and it worked perfectly. The battery would only charge at the super slow speed without this adapter. I don't know exactly why. I'm guessing my phone believed it was connecting to a device that could transfer data. The moment I started using this data blocking adapter my phone would charge from that portable battery super fast. Worked out great. I would recommend these, but caution about your probability of success using them for an automobile connection.

I purchased this adapter for my Kenwood stereo in my car, as everytime I connect my iPhone with the USB cable, it tries to use my phone as an iPod. Since I am using the Bluetooth on the radio, this meant I couldn't charge my phone and listen to Bluetooth at the same time. I took the radio out and put this in the back of the radio in the USB slot, and now I can charge my phone without the radio seeing the data on the phone.

Fixed a charging issue in my car

I bought this adapter to remedy a connectivity issue in my car. I have a 2012 Hyundai, which includes a feature that allows it to connect to iPhones over USB and play music from your media library....if your iPhone is from 2012. My modern iPhone does not play nice with the car's firmware, and this causes it to constantly attempt to reconnect to the car when plugged into USB. I just wanted to be able to charge my phone while driving, and this glitch prevented that.
Enter the PortaPow - it strips away the data connections on the USB connection, and only allows power through. It's a very simple solution, and it works great in my case.
Also interesting - this device can be used to protect your phone from sophisticated malware attacks originating from untrusted USB ports (for example, a charging station at an airport). As this adapter prevents serial connections and only allows power, this is a great tool for security-conscious travelers.

The USB ports on many airplanes provide power, but they're also data ports (the thinking, I guess, is that you can plug in a USB stick full of music and listen to it). If you plug in a Kindle, though, it immediately goes into I-am-a-remote-disk mode, as if you'd plugged it into your computer. You can't read on the device when it's acting like a disk, however. So, if you want to charge your kindle on the plane *and* read at the same time, this device is essential.

Solved my problem not charging my phone after stopping and restarting my Ram truck.

I put this in the center storage USB port of my 2016 Ram 1500 after I figured out why my 6s iPhone would not charge after I stopped and restarted the truck. I get the part about not charging after I turned the truck off, but if you left the 6s plugged into that USB port the entire time, after the truck was restarted, it would not charge the phone. When the phone was unplugged and plugged in again, it would charge. It is unique to the 6s and there is some info floating around that talks a bit more about it. On the flip side, I tried a Galaxy 4 and an older 4s iPhone that did not have this problem. So, if you have a vehicle with a similar problem, take a close look at the adapter.

Nice Cheap Solution to Slow Charges

Product works exactly as described and seems durable and should last. I had several chargers advertised as 2.1 amp but none would charge my iPhone 6 Plus or iPad reasonably quickly. I put this product inline and with the USB Power Monitor the same company sells, I was able to see the amperage raise from .48 amps to 1.89 on one device.

It DID NOT work with my BMW 3 series (2014 model year). I was hoping it would speed up that charge as well, but either the car freaked out or the iPhone didn't like the whole thing and the charge cycled on and off rapidly until I quickly unplugged it. Another reviewer said it worked well with a car and in theory it should, but that part didn't work for me. Overall, I'm still happy as it does exactly what I need it to on some other key charging ports.

I have several of these for travelling, as I'm never sure if I can trust the USB ports I may be using.

Plug this in, and your charge cable into it, and all you get is power and nothing else. Perfect. Used on planes, in hotels and in cars. I am a bit paranoid and don't trust ports I don't own myself, so this is perfect.

Only downside, but unavoidable, is that it is about 2 inches long, so sticks out a bit from the port. Would be great if they did one that was flexible so it bent with the cable rather than stuck straight out, but that is a minor issue and wouldn't stop me buying or using this.

The software on my (not very old) car media system was not compatible with my (very) new phone which meant there were issues when plugging into the usb port for the purpose of charging. This meant that the car would be constantly trying to connect to the phone data unsuccessfully, causing both the car system and phone to 'freak out'. I could either upgrade the car software at a cost of £180 or somehow bypass the data transfer. The purchase of this did the trick for a mere fraction of the cost of the software upgrade. Cuts off the data lines and that's about it

It's supposed to send out fast charging signals to the device you plug into it, but it doesn't seem to do that, I only ever get standard charging through this. Been using cellotape to insulate the data terminals of a standard USB Cable, feeding a Dashcam. Connecting the data terminals prevent the unit from working as a recorder. This little gadget is doing the job of the unreliable insulation system, I have been unable to source a USB Cable, even those that claim to be "Charging Cables" which do not have the data terminals connected.
