I would recommend this unit, but be warned it has been discontinued because of the outdated type of refrigerant it uses. I found that out directly from contacting the manufacturer. I am happy with this purchase even with a few hiccups.
higher BTUs. Easy to operate. Other brands ordered but don't have the quality! Remote handy. Automatic cut off when water drip container full. Came from CA in good shape, VERY well-packed and stable inside packing-- UPS was NOT gentle bringing up the steps!
Just know that the unit produces a lot of hot air, which is vented to the outdoors using the supplied collapsable duct (think dryer vent, but stiffer). The unit comes supplied with a window adapter thing, but since our house has a crawl space, we just cut a hole in the floor and vented the hot air thru the floor. We cut down the window adapter to fit and screwed the deal into the wood floor of the house....
The unit has a water catch pan, but if the humidity is over 50% the pan needs emptying every 45 minutes. The unit comes with a drain hose, however with the addition of a bit of short garden hose, it can drain out thatta way too. If your house is on a slab, you're outta luck unless there's a floor drain nearby.
The cold air outlet has a set of vanes than can be set to swing back and forth, which is a nice feature.
Hit on electric bill has been less than $10 a month with 6-12 hrs of use daily.
We placed ours adjacent to the main hallway of the house, where the unit can be turned to blow cold air into the kitchen, living room, or hall bathroom. We live in SE New Mexico, during the rainy (and hot) season this A/C is fantastic. It does extract a lot of water from the air in the house. No, we don't have central air conditioning, just a swamp cooler, which is useless when the outside humidity is >35%.
It works so well, the boy bought one of his own to cool his room.
