Looking forward to getting my new one.
I am surprised by all the negative feedback as this product is one of the best out there. I take care of all my things so maybe the reason why it has lasted so long? Going to buy a 2nd one as our family has grown.
We were able to bring it on the place when traveling to Florida. However, on three subsequent plane trips (domestic and international), we have been required to check in the umbrella. This is rather inconvenient for us since we do not check in baggage as a rule. We paid the premium price for the umbrella with the idea that it would save us money in the future on beach vacations. Apparently, the metal portion of the stand is viewed as dangerous by TSA.
Regarding the construction, I have now devised a way to keep the umbrella working despite the cheap plastic construction -- Binder Clips! I bring a half dozen along and reinforce the plastic that strains in the wind. So far, it has worked. Still, this was the last time it will be brought along on a trip. Not worth waiting over an hour at baggage claim.
