I bought this because of the many good reviews, cool game pieces, and asymmetrical strategy. I have played 3 games with my friends, we play board games weekly and we took the time to watch play through videos and read the rules before we play. Here is the reason why I gave it 2 stars
1. The races are not balanced. There is one race being consistently the bottom. we knew right away from the first game. There is another race that can easily dominate others in military with a couple of buildings.
2. On the second play, our pace improved, but the game mechanics waste too much actions before you can attack anybody. You take an action to get/spend resources, take action to recruit, take another action to move units, You spend majority of your round just get ready to attack someone. you even have to waste an action to enable scoring...
3. The rule book has many gaps, there are many times where we couldn't tell if certain elements can be use together because the rule book does not cover all possible scenarios. Like another reviewer said, we had to go to forum to find different interpretations, and I have never needed to do that for other board games.
I do like the game pieces and the board can be flipped over for 2 player game, which is clever. However, points above made it not fun overall. At the end of 3rd game, we all didn't think we will play this again. There goes $60.
