Good set, some caveats

This set seemed a little extravagant for somebody who already had the entailed cds, but with the wealth of extras, less so. Not crazy about the tenor of the restorations. When something is restored, I expect more presence, rather than less, more detail rather than a general homogeny. And here is my main problem, which might not have been fixable in the first place. On the “Young, Gifted and Black” cd/album, there has always been a blip I found inconceivable from an artist of Franklin’s magnitude. During her wonderfully assertive treatment of “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” on the phrase, “…my love is growing stronger…,” the words, “growing stronger.” are not in evidence and never have been. I was hoping for a fix, here, but no such luck. Anybody out there have a clue as to what went wrong? I’ve never seen the discrepancy addressed, but might’ve easily missed something. Any elucidation would be welcome. Thanks.

It's really fun to revisit these albums. I remember when they came out and as much as I loved earlier Aretha, this is where I connected. Sound is good, the notes are fun, the extras are pretty good but where the hell are the rest of the 70s albums? With everything I feel in me, Almighty fire, etc. It's almost as if their purposely not reissuing these! These later albums weren't quite as rich but they were far beyond most everything on arista records.

I don't really understand this release, all these albums and the bonus cuts have been reissued numerous times already, and in packages more elaborate than this bare bones set. It's classic Aretha, yes but give us a reason to have actually spent money on it AGAIN. There are Aretha albums that have never been released and yet here we are on these for the forth or fifth go round. Not impressed.

Non recensiti il cofanetto Queen of the soul rare and unreleased …più’ vinili dei primi due album in stereo e mono…Ho scelto il cofanetto cd meno costoso anche perché contiene una ventina di brani più dei vinili comunque sono tutti brani già’ pubblicati anche come singoli, e poi in sette brani e’ presente la chitarra di Duane Allman, purtroppo morto nel ‘71, sennò chissà quante gemme come the weigth ed it ain’t fair ci avrebbero regalato i due!

This box set draws on a phenomenal period of creativity during '70-'74. The packaging is no frills, with rather lightweight cardboard sleeves. On the plus side, the mastering is superb. Chris Bellman has done an excellent job. Deep bass, and a well balanced EQ. Don't sleep on this one!
