After listening to their second album "Union of Crowns" for several months I decided it was time to go back and purchase Portraits. I thought there was no way it could live up to the extremely high standards set by UoC, but once again I was blown away. This album is the definition of top-notch metalcore. Every single member of this band is talented and it shines through on each track.

With that in mind...what sets this album apart from the other 25 metalcore albums you have likely been listening to lately?
1. There is a lot of track diversity here. Very few of their songs sound the same at all and with 14 tracks that's very important.
2. No typical modern day metalcore whiney clean vocals! The line between emo whining and metalcore clean vocals has been blurred so much over the past five years that many bands are just starting to sound pathetic. Couldn't be more impressed with the clean and harsh vocals here!
3. Again, these guys are ultra talented and this album has some of the best writing you will find in metalcore.

I enjoyed this entire album from start to finish just like their second one. It's rare that you can spend $5 and get this kind of value from almost any band these days. If you're on the fence about this one check out the tracks `Her Bones in the Sand', `Repair the Lining', and `Waxed Wings'. These guys have quickly become one of my favorite bands. Check them out and get the album at this low price while it's still offered.

Outstanding metalcore album that balances everything perfectly. Not too heavy, not too light, great screaming and clean vocals throughout, and I like the clean vocalist's voice better than a lot of other vocalists in similar bands. They also manage to put 14 songs together while keeping variety from track to track - no complaints about tracks blending into one another on this album. Highly recommended.

If you like metalcore this is for you. The brits come through on this one... If you like "it dies today" or "Destroy the Runner" you will love it!

Portraits still remains one of the best deathcore/metalcore (genre varies depending on who you ask) albums to ever come out of the UK! BT kill it on this album and developed their basic sound here.
