I usually never leave reviews for stuff but this one deserves it.Note: This is a component (IN) to HDMI (Out) product! Don't buy it expecting it to take HDMI (IN) and go to Component (Out).First and foremost I just need to lay this out right here: This product is WAY better than I initially expected it to be.What I needed was a way to convert YPbPr Component coming from my Nintendo Wii and getting that to HDMI with a good upscale to 480p and send that signal to my Elgato HD60S. It overachieved in what I needed it for. The only thing is instead of 480p, the Porrta offers resolutions of 720/1080p. There's a botton that toggles between both of those resolutions but for the signal it was receiving from the Wii it only allows me to use 720p for it, which is fine.It shows up in my software as its native 16:9 resolution so I had to manually adjust it to a 4:3 for it to maintain it's native resolution. So the quality of everything dramatically increased from what I was using before. The images are sharp and the colors are brilliant. There are no artifacts, there's no pixelation, none of that stuff. It's clean. I've never seen these games look the way they were meant to look until I got this device. I'm talking nearly 20 year old games looking crisp and HD-like.tl;dr - An incredible device that I highly recommend. This device is a steal and incredibly good for it's price. I did a lot of previous research on other devices such as RetroTINK and the OSSC and went with this Porrta device and I'm glad I did.

Very unreliable. UNTIL, i bought the portta brand. It works no problem. Turn it on first or last no sequencing protocol needed. Why/ Because it just works! Love it!!!!

This one WORKS! The first converter I tried worked on only some components. The ones that did not work had no sound or picture. The second one had sound but there was a definite timing issue and the picture had wavy scan lines and only a picture could describe the effect.

I gave up for some time until I came across this model and it stated that timing issues were fixed with this box. So I gave it a try thinking I would only have to return it as I did the last two attempts. So pleased with the results. I used it with a Magnavox DVD recorder and VHS recorder player.

These have component outputs that worked on two previous (older) TV I had in the past, but I updated to a newer Smart TV to find out that Component input is no longer supported. I had to use older analog connection which did not give a good picture, but I was not ready to replace my components. A converter such as the this one was the answer. Thanks to the company PORTTA for figuring out how to support older equipment such as I have.

I have two Magnavox MDR535H DVRs which for some reason, the HDMI output on both are not compatible (or just plain aren't working) with my newly purchased LG model 55UN7300AUD TV. The TV only has one combo composite/component input. Even though LG ( and Sam's Club) state that it's composite input only, it will actually accept either one. I didn't want to use a component switchbox since I'd have to get up and change the switch whenever I wanted to switch between the DVRs. Although I suppose I MIGHT have been able to find an electronic component switchbox with remote, I decided to buy this converter and instead allow my TV to switch between the resulting upscaled HDMI signals. I purchased the first PORTTA switcher to try out and the image quality was excellent, so I ordered a second one. The second one arrived with a defective AC/DC converter. I returned it and promptly received a third unit which works fine. The DVRs can output either 480p or 480i on the component lines and switching between the two, I can't see any difference once passed through the PORTTA. The same can be said when switching between the PORTTA's 720 or 1080 outputs.

I must say that this converter/upscaler has exceeded ALL of my expectations concerning image quality. The DVRs are mainly used to record/playback OTA digital broadcasts, which look great. They are also used to record programs from my Dish 311 SD receivers. Naturally, the Dish recordings look substandard, but that's a result of the heavy compression Dish uses for SD programs and not a reflection of the signal quality of the PORTTA. We're looking to either upgrade the Dish receivers or possibly go to cable and move into the 21st century.

As some other users have noted, the PORTTA converter gets VERY warm to the touch. I'm concerned this may affect the overall long-term stability/reliability of the units, but so far they're working fine. If I run into any problems down the road, I'll attempt to append this review. For now, though, I'm a happy camper and feel that I got my money's worth. If it weren't for the defective unit that I received, I would have given this 5 stars.

I notice that some users are reporting that they received defective units (or they didn't know how to connect them) and they never mentioned if they tried a replacement, yet only gave 1 star for their review. Although they are obviously entitled to their opinion, I for one, was happy to give it another try with a replacement and glad I did. I should mention that with Amazon's return/replacement policy, if the first one I had received was defective, I would have ordered another before leaving such a low-rated review. Just my thoughts and YMMV.

I purchased the upscaler version to connect my old Nintendo Gamecube to a Samsung UN65KS9000F using the original Nintendo brand component cables--the converter did not work. The error message on the TV said that the display did not support the external device's resolution, despite the converter manual saying it supports the following inputs: 480i/p (which is the Gamecube resolution), 576i/p, 720i/p, and 1080i/p and outputs HDMI at 720p and 1080p. The converter might have worked on a different TV but I don't have time to test the setup all around the house. I imagine the problem is with my TV, not the converter. As other reviews have stated, the device itself does require its own power outlet, and even after just a few minutes it was starting to get pretty warm. Returning this item for a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfecte oplossing voor retrogames op nieuwe tv
Reviewed in the Netherlands on October 12, 2020

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfetta su Xbox classic 2002
Reviewed in Italy on January 26, 2019

      CONSIGLIATISSIMO
