From the Author
This book grew out of my many years working with and learning from leaders in business, government, education and community organizations. As an executive coach, my role is to understand and support leaders at various stages of their careers. Many of the big ideas that I cover with leaders in the executive coaching process and from my leadership seminars are included in the book. As with all of life, I am the beneficiary of the many people who were leaders for me as well as well as those who were kind enough to allow me to lead them in many roles. This book is directed not only to leaders who wish to improve their leadership but also to followers who want their leader and team to be more effective. My education at Wheaton College (IL) so many years ago continues to inform and shape the work I do and the books I write. I enjoyed the example of many fine leaders there as well as outstanding professors who gave me a wonderful foundation for life. The book is not written as a technical or scholarly work. Instead it was written so that new leaders could learn from it even while experienced leaders are reminded of their leadership story.
