About the Author

Sibylla Matilde grew up in the mountain valleys of Southwest Montana, and grew up exploring the alfalfa fields on the back of a horse. She attended a two-room schoolhouse 1st through 6th grade where she had same teacher the whole time. Beginning at about age 12, Sibylla discovered historical romance, feeding off of work of Jude Devereaux, Lisa Kleypas, and Karen Robards. She loves a book that can make the reader run the gamut of emotions, from the sweet glow of new love to gut-wrenching heartache. She always has stories floating around in her head, living in some fantasyland until she writes them down to free them. She is a true romantic, a bit of a Pollyanna, and a deeply emotional soul. Music is her emotional trigger. Growing up with a Wagnarian-opera-loving mother, Sibylla grew up with music that digs deep into her soul and pulls out emotion. The soundtrack to her life includes different genres and generations. She looooooooves Thirty Seconds to Mars (rather obsessively, actually) with a little Kings of Leon to mix things up, and pimps them out regularly to all her friends through Spotify. She also enjoys watching Met Opera HD broadcasts at her local movie theater, and hopes (listening Met?) to someday see Diana Damrau reprise her role as Mozart’s Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte – The Magic Flute. Sibylla lives with her husband, Mike, a man who she firmly believes saved her from her self-destructive, hot mess self. He makes her laugh every day, even when things seem to be falling apart around them, and has proved to her that love really can heal a shattered soul. In almost 20 years, they have never had a fight, but argue regularly with their two teenage kids who have, unfortunately, inherited their father’s quick wit (unfortunate as it is a quick wit that Sibylla, herself, definitely does not possess – there is a reason she is a writer and not a stand-up comedian), and live a quiet life with their two weird little rescued Chiweenies. Wait… teenagers and little yap-dogs? Okay, maybe not so quiet. :)

Favorite Quotes:

I could have kissed her forever. Little things a body required like air and food were inconsequential when compared with the rampant need building inside me.

That one little gasp, that breathy sound, stirred something in me again. Jesus, she was like Viagra personified.

I don’t think I’ve ever said f#@ before,” Sophie giggled. “I feel kind of… naughty all of a sudden.

Her voice was the barest of whispers. “You make me feel… free.

Every thought in my brain was twisted together, and I couldn’t make sense of any of it. I could only hold her, feel her clutching me tightly, wanting to believe that all this truly meant something to her.

My Review:

The Copperline is a bar where the bands played loud, fights were common, and "the girls were always the easiest." It was here that the lovely Sophie first encountered Brannon; although it is not the first time he had noticed her. I was captivated by this couple and Ms. Matilde's writing. The narrative was written from Brannon's POV and was engrossing, heart squeezing, insightful, humorous, and endearing. Brannon is a blue-collar mechanic with tattoos, piercings and grease stains. Sophie is a cultured, beautiful, upper class, good girl who is expected to be a Stepford wife and marry as a business asset for her father. Under her parents' tight control and given her desire to please, she has never broken a rule or stepped out of line. By contrast, Brannon has enjoyed an easy-going lifestyle of a self-professed man-ho and friend to the popular bar band called The Bangin' Mofos, who never brings girls to the bar but leaves with a different one each night, and seldom speaks without the use of expletives.

This is a difficult book to rate. The beginning captured my attention straightaway, especially with it being told entirely from the male POV. The characters were well flushed out, interesting, and likable- but something was missing. I never felt a connection to them. I wanted them to find their HEA undoubtedly, but with so many emotions swirling throughout the book, I felt less than the story warranted. The pacing threw me a bit too. There were quite a few times I considered sliding the book to the DNF pile and moving on. I'm so glad I kept reading though because for the last two thirds, things kicked into a new gear. There was angst, heartbreak, hope, etc, and I couldn't stop reading. I did like the way the dialogue was written, it felt honest to each character and flowed well. The banter between friends and relatives worked well to establish believable relationships. I should mention the sex scenes too. Those were definitely steam worthy. The book focuses a lot on them, as you'd expect from a young male POV, so don't read this book if descriptive sex isn't your thing. I'm surprised to say I'm now planning to continue the series. Though it's not jumping to the top of my TBR list, I definitely am interested in reading more about this group of friends.

The ratings for this book are high and most reviews positive so I bought it together with books 2 and 3 but I don’t really like it. I’m a third in and I don’t want to continue. I even went to sleep early last night instead of reading too many hours (which I usually do). I don’t feel the chemistry and the characters didn’t seem to keep my interest. I guess it’s just not for me at the moment and I’ll give it another try later…

This book was surprisingly emotional for me, especially from about 70% through the end of the book. I’d forgotten how much I like this author’s writing.

Sophie was interesting to me…she wanted to try new things and live a little after having been treated liked a commodity her entire life. Some of the things she wanted to try, I’ve never even tried and I was impressed that she followed through with everything she wanted to do. However, I didn’t like how she didn’t stand up for Brannon and I felt like she never really made up for that.

Brannon was pretty great…manwhore and all. I loved his reaction to Sophie and his honesty with her. I loved their banter. I didn’t like how quickly he flew off the handle and wouldn’t listen to her when he saw something that was not actually what he thought he saw. That miscommunication in stories always makes me a little angry. I loved his patience as Sophie discovered herself. Her parents were just worthless.

I loved the ending…Denny was pretty great. I’m anxious to read the rest of the series as every character’s story should be really good.

4.5 stars!! I really loved that this was written in Brannon's POV. I haven't read too many books where I don't get at least some of the heroines thoughts but I actually loved it. I loved how Sophie was the rich hottie and Bran was the guy from the wrong side of the tracks. It was just totally opposite of what I normally read and it was refreshing. Great read!! Looking for to Denny's story!

I received a copy of this book exchange for an honest review. Love the plot of this story. Brannon and Sophie chemistry was heated up in this story and the characters love their sense of honor always busting the friends chops about their ladies. This is a new to me author and this book doesn't disappoint it was a simple read of how two people who are different but are right for each other in every way.
