About the Author

John O’Connor is an experienced trial lawyer, practicing law in San Francisco since 1972. He has tried cases in state and federal court throughout the country.

He served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Northern California from 1974-1979, representing the United States in both criminal and civil cases. Among his interesting assignments have been representation of the government during the OPEC oil embargo of the 1970s; writing Fifth Amendment and “state of mind” briefs for the prosecution in United States v. Patricia Hearst; representing the FDIC, FSLC and RTC during the savings and loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s; representing California Attorney General Dan Lungren in campaign-related litigation; defending R.J. Reynolds Tobacco in significant smoking and health litigation; representing Coach Don Nelson in litigation with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban; and representing W. Mark Felt regarding the revelation of his identity as Deep Throat.

His father, John C. O’Connor, was a former FBI agent, a prominent Indianapolis lawyer and Democratic politician, and senior partner in the Indianapolis law firm of Ruckelshaus, Bobbitt and O’Connor.

John is married, the father of three grown children, and resides in Marin County, California with his wife, the former Janet Goldman.

If you live in one of the social media echo chambers, and enjoy your daily drivel of reaffirming claptrap, this is NOT the book for you. O’Connor breathes new life into the lost art of investigative journalism, and forces us to question what we’ve previously taken for granted. Did WaPo capitalize on the naiveté of its readers by speeding to foregone partisan conclusions? Did they create the model in use today where conjecture passes for analysis? O’Connor diagnoses the traps in the psychobabble and counsels us on how to recognize them in the future. One need not necessarily agree with every nuance in the book, but through O’Connor’s laser precision in connecting the dots, he reminds us of our civic duty where the press is concerned, to question more and genuflect less.

I preordered this book and when it arrived, could not put it down. In this day where “impeachment” is at the front of every news feed, you owe it to yourself to learn what really happened during the Nixon impeachment process: the past is repeating itself and it is not at the hand of The President.

This book gives insight to what is really behind “fake news” – a cover-up that brought down the Nixon presidency for reasons never fully revealed. In our democracy where we depend upon the media to deliver through factual, unbiased, reporting, this book shows how the news can be manipulated to keep the voting public in the dark. It’s an eye-opener and could not be more timely.

A Must Read especially for Baby Boomers who now hear and see echoes of Watergate in DC. The author has impeccable credentials and after decades of research and personal legal representation of the original "Deep Throat" has uncovered the ultimate "cover-up of the cover-up" relating to Watergate. There is a reason that most of the of the modern media outlets are now distrusted. And this book further confirms that distrust. It alleges and reports deceptive journalism by the Washington Post and its two most famous journalist, and lays out the claim that the Nixon Administration was in fact a victim not only of itself, but also of a "journalistic smoke screen that prevented mitigation of its guilt". The book further proves how the WPost was in reality a "house organ" for the Democratic National Committee. This betrayal of the truth continues to this day.

The successful CIA operation of Watergate has implications for today

After reading this book, I realized that I had missed over half the facts of the Watergate scandal. Having researched the JFK assassination for many years, I had always heard that all of the plumbers , except maybe James McCord, were involved in the JFK assassination. Hence, most serious researchers can see that the assassination was a CIA operation. The same can be said about Watergate. In fact, there is no doubt the CIA was involved in Watergate. The only question remaining was whether the CIA was a benign observer, or was this a CIA operation with the ultimate goal being the impeachment of NIxon. Isn't it interesting that Woodward wrote two books - one in 2019 and one right before the election in 2020 ("Rage") that were extremely derogatory exposes of Trump's presidency. As O'Connor has stated before, Watergate formed a template in which the mainstream media was given the power to act as either an attack dog or a lapdog. I look forward to future books that John O'Connor may write. As a suggestion, I suggest he tackle the subject of the financial scandal involved in the Clinton Foundation. I want to also thank Don and Ella of TFR Radio for their interview of John O'Connor which inspired me to read this book.

I grew up in Northern Virginia and read the Watergate articles in the Post real time. Never did I imagine the Post was manipulating the story as Postgate exposes to do their bidding in cohorts with the Democratic National Committee! This book needs to promoted and recommended until but instead powerful media is choosing to ignore it. I heard Mr. O'Conner on Coast to Coast or I would never have purchased the Book. Buy and read this book!!!
