I love reading cozy mysteries where the protagonist has an unusual hobby or profession. When I was planning my cozy mystery series, I wanted the main character to share my interest in old movies. I'm from Dublin, but I spent my summers with my grandparents in a small town in the southwest of Ireland. In their town, there was an abandoned movie theater, and my cousin and I used to sneak inside. I loved the idea of putting that movie theater on my fictional island and having a character renovate it into a café with a movie club attached.

All the titles in the Movie Club Mysteries riff off classic movies. Dial P For Poison was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder. The second book in the series is called The Postman Always Dies Twice, and it got its name from The Postman Always Rings Twice.
