Postmark from the Past is the story of Emily Patterson who finds a red envelope in her mailbox, postmarked 20+ years earlier. If that doesn’t grab you, I don’t know what will! More letters appear and odd things begin to happen. As Emily solves her mystery, the reader can’t help grow fond of Phelps’ fictional West Texas characters who mind each other’s business.
This debut novel isn’t without a problem here and there, but Phelps’ storytelling skills are exceptional and will keep you reading to the very end. And then you’ll be like me, waiting impatiently for Phelps’ next novel.
I loved the story line and a little suspense as to who was putting the letters in her box.
I hope to see more novels from Vickie Phelps!
Emily's mystery caught my attention immediately....a few chapters in, I was hooked. I read feverishly over two days to find the mystery had been transformed into something greater, maybe even a miracle. Each chapter created a new set of questions. Each answer created a feeling of joy and character connection. My heart had melted into the story. I laughed. I cried. I felt compassion, excitement, and my curiosity stayed perked throughout the entire book. Grab a cup of coffee, find a cozy nook and indulge yourself in this Christmas mystery!
Romance has never been my genre. Although, after the second reading of this book, I must confess...I have been converted!!!! I find myself to be a bit of a hopeless romantic thanks to Vickie Phelps. A definite welcome for me. Well done, Ms. Phelps!
